Someone tried to steal the Ducati.  Bike was found dragged up onto the sidewalk, cover off.  Thank GOD they didn't drop it!!  There was a kryptonite disk lock and chain on it and it was fork locked as well.  I don't know why they didn't just push it over then.

Contrary to what the building management wants me to do where I rent, I just rolled the bike inside the back gate and onto the flowerbed back there.  I'll have a chat with them about why the motorcycle is there later.

I am concerned about the front brake now.  When they tried to roll it, it jammed the lock into the disk pretty bad and I can hear squeeking now. :(  She's only been home a little over two weeks.  Ah well.. at least shes still HOME and NOT DROPPED!!

Good to hear bike is intact. I know things happen quick in the big urbans, I lived in NYC for many years. Are your neighbors watchful of one another? In my old neighborhood, lower east side, everyone kept an eye for each other. Would an alarm help?

Wow...pretty scary.  Is there anywhere else you can keep your bike overnight (friend's garage, your living room, etc.)?

Start thinking about a Scorpio alarm. And I'd say a gun too, but you live in Chicago :-\

I could NEVER park my bikes on the street.  Scratch that.  I could NEVER sleep while my bikes were parked on the street.  I don't know how you do it, but best of luck!!

Perhaps consider moving.   :)

Bike thieves should DIE!!! >:(

I just happened to try to ride my Yamaha with my disk lock once....anyway, I had the same symptoms, bit of squeaking so I took the caliper off, made sure nothing was cracked or broken on the fork leg or brake disc. Then I carefully wedged the brake pads apart very slightly to make reinstallation easier. Once I had the caliper back on and torqued, I spun the front wheel and gently squeezed the front brake a few times to sorta reset the pads. It was fine after that.

1.  I have tried to find a garage to rent where I live.  No go.
2.  I have the scorpio... its not been nice enough for me to install it yet-  meaning I've not had a nice Sunday where homework isn't due and it's not raining since I have to to this my myself. =(

The good news is that it only takes 15 minutes to install.

I hope so as that I don't know what I am doing.

I might be just speaking for myself here, but I usually only have a vague idea of what I am doing when I start out a project.  Then when I am finished, I can't believe how easy/fun it was; or sometimes how retarded I am.  It all depends on how the project comes out (both bike and non-bike related projects).

So since the police woke you up, does that mean they caught the perp?

I don't need to do that.  Everyone wants to hump the tangerine dream and forget about me completely which I am totally fine with.

I will try to work on the alarm today or tomorrow.  I just don't want to get in the positon where I make the beast with two backs up the wiring and cannot fix it back so it starts.

Still, I am not sure what happened last night wouldn't have happened if the scorpio was on it.  One of the cops suggested it was a prank since the bike was put in the middle of the sidewalk, straight up, not over on her side.  The divot left in the grass from where they dragged it off the street makes me wonder though. I think they wanted it and saw that the fork wasn't moving and that honkin' kryponite chain and lock was a pain in the ass.

I want to keep my bike but maybe I should just sell her now and have NO bike like I did before.  If I can get the building management to work with me here, it will be okay.  But that isn't looking ood.

I live an urban life as well.  I don't know about Chicago but we have storage lockers everywhere here.  I have a 5' X 9' cube on the fourth floor in a building right across the street.  It's perfect!  One crosswalk away my bike is safe & dry and I have a small utility shelf that holds all those stock parts I'll never use.  All my riding gear is there so I walk in in street clothes and come off the elevator ready to ride with my thumb on the starter. They also have 4' X 8's but the little more room gives me enough space to do mods & maintenance.

As far as humpin' the tangerine dream goes unless that's a picture of your BFF on your posts I think those guys are nuts.  Not to take anything from your bike though I've seen a photo and it's pretty sweet!
