Hey guys,

So, I just bought a 97 M900 with a bunch of mods but also a bunch of rigged up junk.

1- I need to know how the front sprocket locks into place. It just has the sprocket with NO retainers of any sort. I can push it out with my fingers!! Where can I get one? Anybody have one for sale?

2- Which exhaust from different year or model will fit? Header wise, which are interchangeable. It is way too loud in this format.

3- It needs new pads front and back, it has Superbike (916, 996) front end and SSSwingarm, which and where should I buy these from (brand and store/vendor)?

4- Needs an oil change and filter. Again which store supplier do you guys like? What kind of weight, synthetic or conventional? It has a dry clutch BTW

5- Needs 2 new timing belts. Which supplier/store is good. What kind of tension should they be set at?

6- Does anyone know the stock gearing for a 97 M900. It currently has 15-36 now. I want to change them out, getting pretty worn out.

7- Would want to do a fuel filter and re-route it. Seems like someone rigged it and its dangerously close to the exhaust. Can someone show me where the line routes to? Do these bikes come with a fuel pump?? If so, where? I can't seem to find one, unless its in-tank.

8- Need belt covers, anyone have them for sale?

9- I need new tools, for the SSSwingarm spanner wrench, wheel removal  and SSS stand. Any good supplier/vendor?

10- I can find out a lot more myself if someone pointed me out where to find a Manual Online...you know, the free kind!!

This is not my 1st bike by far. Been riding streetfighters before they became mainstream. Still got my 2000 R1, 91 1100 and sold many others.

I'm pretty active on the other forum boards but my 1st Duc. My bro had one, so I felt I needed to get one too!!

I'm probably going to keep this one and sell the others.

The bike is originally a Hurricane Ducati, have anybody heard of them?? They're local to NC.

They build some sweeet stuff, that's why I had to buy this one, even with all its neglect. I'll bring her back to life once more!!!!! [evil]

Thanks guys/girls/ sick bastards

Have you clicked on any of the DMF Sponsors on the left side of the page? Many of them will have what you need.

Also, try reading up in the Tech and Accessories/Mod sections for info about belt cover mods, tension settings, exhausts, etc. Many many answers there.

Welcome to the DMF.  You've got a pretty unique bike there.  Any pics?

Yow, that's a long list.  Most of what you are looking for--brake pads, filters, belts, etc.--you can find at ca-cycleworks.  Their catalog is a bit weird, but you can order online or call them.  They are great.  They'll sell you tools and manuals as well.  The 996 and 916 brakes are the same as the goldline brakes on the monster.  2 pad, 4 pistons.

You don't want OEM gearing, whatever it was for that year.  I promise.

The designer/builder of your bike is Norm Brown.  He goes by Norm on this board.  He can probably tell you whatever you need to know about it.

Cool, so Norm post on here too, that's great news. I sent him an email on his site, I'll wait for his reply.

I wish I knew how to post pictures, I can't seem to find the attachment button!! All forumboards are design different!!

I thought monsters had a single pin goldline calipers and superbikes had two pins? Maybe I'm was wrong.

Yea, that bike is pretty wicked, someone previous really didn't take any car of it, at all.

I was posting to see if any vendors would give me a better deal since I'll be spending a whole bunch of money in one shot!! 8)  COME ON VENDORS!!

Like I said, this bike is going to be WICKED when I'm done with her!!!

Now, to find a repair manual online

Haynes manual for 2v, air-cooled Ducs.

The bike looks great.   [thumbsup]  But please tell me the exhaust isn't as close to that rear tire as it appears in the pics.  Is there a headlight & tach?

Stock exhausts are pretty much compatible throughout the dual-sided swingarm monsters.  The problem you're likely to have is with the SSS.  First, it doesn't look like you have the complete stock header.  It looks like yours has been chopped.  The stock one goes behind the engine and splits into two.  If you were to replave that exhaust system with a stock header, it will likely run into the SSS on the left side.  You might have to get something custom fabbed up.  For example, I know that Tigre has an sbk SSS conversion on his air-cooled monster and had high mounts custom made out of a 916 exhaust system.

You'll indeed need something custom done as far as the exhaust is concerned.
There are a handful of 2 into 1 exhausts for Monsters, IIRC Leo Vince is one.
One of their cans could likely be made to fit without too much trouble.

Also, find out what the rear tire is rubbing on, and get it squared away.

WOW :o :o!

Too many questions, but the retainer plate for the sprocket can be bought from any good dealer.  Even better, give Chris Kelley at  http://www.ca-cycleworks.com   and discuss all your parts and tool needs with him.  Before you do that, as suggested by Spidey, speak to Norm so you know more about what he used and modified when he built the bike.  Norm should be able to advise and help you with items like the exhaust too.

beastie

Yes, thank you.

I will try and get in touch with Norm.

Decided to probably stick with those headers and custom fab another link pipe to underseat exhaust.

ca-cycleworks.com is going to get my business as it seems people have been recommending them highly.

There's a whole bunch of stuff I need to find out about a bike like this, kinda fun but frustrating just as much.

So anybody know the stock gearing for a 97 M900? I think I found it wwas 15-38 or close to it.
Still need to find an online manual for it [roll]

I can answer a few of these, since I had a 1997 M900 for six years

The front sprocket is supposed to be held in place with a retainer plate that is attached to the sprocket with two little screws.  Here's a photo of what it should look like:

Should be available from any Ducati dealer.  The last time I needed one I called Ducati Seattle and had them send me one in the mail, since my local dealer didn't have any in stock.  [roll]

All recent Ducatis take the same oil filter.  Normally you'll need to get one from a dealer.  You should also get a new crush washer for the drain plug bolt and for the screen on the right side.

Recommended oil is 20W50 and you'll get a wide range of opinions on which oil to use.  Just make sure it's motorcycle oil and you should be good.

Buy belts from a Ducati dealer or from http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/

Stock gearing for the 1997 M900 is 15/39.  Apparently Ducati shipped a few with 15/38.  Personally, I felt that 15/41 was optimal gearing.

Good luck.

Ca-cycleworks just happens to have a gearing chart on their site... so when you're shopping - just jump on that section and you should be able to find it

Fuel pump is vac driven and will be on the outside of the tank for a carby 900.   the FI bikes have the pumps inside the tank.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.
