Just needed a battery so we stole one from my bike. No riding for us this weekend since only one bike can go at a time.

You only need the battery to start the bike hint hint...

Funny, neither bikes ran with a dead battery. They would only run while hooked up to a car.

Hint hint.

Sounds like you have other issues, like with the stator, hint hint...

Why would BOTH bikes do this? Seems like a huge coincidence.

I always thought they would run on the stater but they don't.

they started just fine but as soon as you disconnected the jumper

they shut down

Unfortunately, said riding did not take place.

Maybe in a couple weeks.

i discovered the same thing when my battery wasnt charging. the bike definately uses the battery while running, and when said battery is done, so is your ride.

Sow how does the battery ever return to full charge? That just doesn't make sense...

A carbie will run without the battery, an FI bike won't.

Monsterlover

Why?

The stator has to put out enough to run the bike *and* charge the battery.

I've run FI cars with no battery before. . .

from experience...if the battery is completely flat then your FI monster won't run. if it will take a bit of a charge then you'll be ok, but if it won't take a charge then you need a new battery anyways

my XR will run with a dead battery, but the lights don't work that well, and it won't start again.
