Hi All,

Have a lead on a 2004 620ie for sale. Do these models have the red/black key with code card? Also, did they come with the flyscreen? This bike has been dropped on the right side... so typical Monster dent in the tank. Bike is right at the 12k mile service interval. Not sure what to figure for the tank repair. Could probably do the 12k mile service myself but figure that is a negotiating factor as well. So, what would you think this bike would be worth? Owner's asking $3200 obo. Hope to have a Monster in the garage someday.....

Thanks!

Mark

Price.  I'm no expert, but I'd say the price is pretty good if it's in otherwise good shape and there is nothing other than the 12k to take care of (if it's stock rubber, I bet they don't have much life left).  You're not going to find a monster for much, much cheaper than that.

Tank.  You're probably looking at $300-$700 for the tank repair and repaint (cost are alllll over the place).

Red key.  Yes, they came with red key + card.

Flyscreen.  I'm not sure re the flyscreen, but IIRC they should come with the flyscreen if they're the S version, not if it's the dark.

yes, it should have both red/black keys and the code card...

what's the blue book in your area for that bike? that's a good starting point, then factor in how you feel the drop affected the bike (hidden damage outside of the tank dent?)

would it be possible to get it to a mechanic to look over before purchase?

dang your quick fingers, warren! lol

but... IIRC, at least for 2005, the non-dark 620 has the screen.

If it's right up on the 12k - then that's a few hundred dollars of swing factor.  The big specs for 12k are valve check/reshim Replace timing belts and change oil.  Other stuff that should be looked over are the age of the rubber - if it's original it probably needs replaced.  Most bike tire manuf recommend replacement at 5 years of age, regardless of wear.  Of course that's probably conservative, but it is something to keep in mind.

Have a look over the chain - if you can get it on a rear stand and hand turn the rear wheel, more the better.  You're looking for real rusting (like coming out from the rollers) kinks or binding.  If there's heavy duty rust, not just a little surface stuff, or bad links then you'll be looking at a chain and sprocket set $200-300 for parts.

Have a look in the tank with a flashlight - looking for rust.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Flyscreen.  I'm not sure re the flyscreen, but IIRC they should come with the flyscreen if they're the S version, not if it's the dark.

In 2004 there was only the ie or the dark (and the dark single disc if you want..) - and my ie had both with seat cowl and flyscreen

seems like a good deal as long as you can live with the dent...if you must have it fixed I would figure somewhere around a extra $500. (if it lower than that thats awesome!)

That's not a bad price for a 2004....even if you can't get him down a few more dollars I wouldn't feel bad paying that price.  Especially if it's in clean shape other than the tank ding.  But given it needs the 12k service I'd go ahead an negotiate.

The 620's came with both the cowl and fairing in 2004.  I had an '03 (which came sans fairing) and was pissed to see they were stock the following year.  Plus, it had a 6 speed instead of a 5.

and if you want a new tank opposed to repairing that one, you're looking on the order of $2000.  I had my 12k done last year and it was right at $600 (oil change, belt change, fuel filter change, shims checked/adjusted, some more I'm sure).

Did they replace the bars when it was dropped?  They tend to bend.  Check the underside of the cans for scratches which would help tell the story of the drop (if they weren't replaced).

When I bought mine used, it came with the cowl, but not the fly screen.  Maybe some dealers added them as options?

Try and find a local shop in your are  (not a Dealership) that can save you a lot of $ for the 12k, but quote the dealership price to the seller to negotiate.

All 620's are fuel injected, that's true. But '620 i.e.' was also used in the model name, at least in 2003
Thus: all 620 are i.e. - but some are also called i.e.     ..or something like that  ;D   [drink]

I thought they were all "620ie" so... 620ie dark, 620ie, 620ie S.

hmmmm...

where's that ducati catalog when I need it? my brain are dumb sometimes

Yep, my 2004 Dark i.e. came with red key and the card.  I did not get the one with the seat cowl and front cowl (assuming that means fly screen).  I think those items were like  $600 extra back in 2004.  Fuel injected, yes. Dealership 12K service was around $500-$600 (I stopped going there afterwards).  Good luck with the bike research.
620M 2004 Dark i.e.; ~ 57K miles (all me);  Looking to swap out engine now.
Triumph Speed Triple 2006 (now ~ 44K miles bought @ 4K miles on 04/2010)
Honda Grom 2015 ~ 3500miles so far.  Love this lil bike

I thought they were all "620ie" so... 620ie dark, 620ie, 620ie S.
I THINK the correct nameing is as follows (correct me if I'm wrong);
2002-2003
Monster 620 i.e.
Monster 620s i.e.
Monster 620DARK i.e.

2004-2006   (PTC clutch, 6 speed)
Monster 620
Monster 620 dark

So the 2004 is not called i.e.  (probably because there were no more s i.e.)  ..but some call their '04 620 i.e. anyway (see my .sig  ;D)

Price seems OK, negociate,  bit regarding pending 12K svs and 'tank' issue, you might get lucky and find a used plastic one[complete] for around $300~$500... Just a thought ...

Offer $2700.00 cash in hand
