I searched but didn't see my exact situation.

750ss got converted to a 900ss (ie)

I have already had the bike running, idling and reving fine, though I haven't ridden it yet.

It seems to be really sensitive to battery voltage as to whether or not it will start.  The original battery was shot, and wouldn't hold a charge.

I bought a new battery.  It's a small yuasa yzt7s knockoff (or at least that's close to the number)  It's only like 5 pounds.

I put that in last night, and got it running for about 15 seconds and it died.  I have been unable to get it to run again.

I put it on my battery tender and let it charge overnight, thinking the battery wasn't fully charged when I got it.  Who knows how long it sat?

This morning, still nothing.  This bike does not have the fast idle lever still installed so I was playing with the throttle by hand.  It has the best chance with the throttle fully closed it seems.

And even then, it will only fire and *sort of run* if i hold the starter button down.  If i let off or the battery dies down enough to slow the starter Im dead in the water.

I have a trackday on sunday and would *really* like to get this up and running.

Some notes that may matter-

The plugs are of unknown age, and part number.  It looks like the NGK DCOR8E is what I need for this bike?

The fuel is of unknown age, but again, i had it running with these plugs and this gas (i was on the old battery with my car charger on 30A start setting!)

The injectors and throttle bodies that came with my 900 were not used.  They looked IDENTICAL to the injectors and throttle bodies on the 750ie engine so I used them knowing they had been working somewhat recently.  I have no idea when the 900 injectors last had fuel in them.

Again, the bike ran (seemingly fine) with these injectors and throttle bodies.

Thoughts?

Did that motor come from a monster or SS?

I forget.

Throttle bodies are the same between Monster and SS, but Monster injectors are different.  SS's run green plastic topped injectors (IIRC) and Monsters have all silver metal injectors.  The Monster injectors actually flow more fuel so if that's the case it *may* be the problem, but here are my thoughts:

Plugs first.

Gas second.

Put new in on both counts as you'll be questioning the shit out of yourself if you don't....and they're cheap.

Also, which ECU are you running?  Monster or SS? 1999 or 2000 or 2001?

Well, the old and new injectors are both green tops, so it sounds like I have actual SS injectors.

[thumbsup]

Ill do the plugs and gas.  Was my NGK number the right one?

I am running a 1999 900ss ecu.  (bike was a 99 750ss)

pretty sure it's DCPR8E

The fuel that is in the tank is from mid summer last year.

It was 10% ethanol.

Well, it looks like things are ok.

At least I'll say that tentatively.

I bought the NGK's and swapped them in.  The champions that came out were fouled, but still usable if there were cleaned.

As for gas. . .

I don't think the problem was old fuel.

It was no fuel [roll]

All the sudden it occurred to me the pump sounded. . . loud.

I looked in the tank and there was fuel, but it didn't look like much.

I poured in about 1/3 gallon of unknown octane/age fuel and got it running.

The pump sounded normal, loaded.

Never considered it was out of gas [laugh]
