Streetfighter demo

I wanted to test the M1100, but the dealer had sold their demo.  So.....I took the standard Streetfighter for a spin.  I only rode about 20 minutes, but here are my impressions:

Clutch pull was much easier than I expected.

Stable, stable, stable.  I tried to make the front end twitch at speed, but could not get it to wobble.  However, this made slow u-turns more difficult for city driving.  More input compared to my M696 was need to turn in. 

Fast.  Makes you want to pass on double yellows. 

Power seemed very manageable and even throughout the powerband.  The bike was stock, BTW. 

I expected the front to come up more easily, but the lengthened wheel base compared to the 1098/1198 seemed to keep the bike planted. 

It is taller than the M696.  I can flat foot the M696, but was on my toes for the SF. 

It certainly is on the wish list.  However, that type of power can get you into trouble really quick.  It seemed a bit tall to be a great track bike, so I would have to monitor that right wrist on the street.  I still want to take a spin on the M1100.  It would be great to hear from someone who has ridden both the M1100 to the SF.

Here's my story. I went to take a test ride on the new Ducait Streetfighter "S". Not a half mile down the road, while making a turn from a stop, I rolled the throttle with the brake, and dropped the bike. Now I'm on the hook to purchase or repair the bike. My insurance has decided not to pay at this point.
To repair-that is a COMPLETE repair, replacing every scratched part, is over $9K. The bike was actually ridden back to the shop, so it doesn't actually need every little thing replaced. The most serious damage is the rear brake. This is the only thing actually broken-and therefore needed in my opinion. This makes buying the bike a better option.
This particular model is $18900. I don't have that kind of cash laying around, and I'm struggling to find the financing. I'm looking for someone to assume my financial liability and in return acquire a formidable street/track bike that is scratched up but with no compromise in ridability.
I need someone with approximately $19000 in cash or credit. Otherwise, please don't write.

I could see if he was going to take some of the hit, but nah, I'll rash up my own bike, thankyouverymuch.

Well there goes any desires I had to demo a bike. Isn't the dealer covered for demo bikes? That just sucks for everyone involved from the guy who dropped the bike to the dealer.

I believe the dealers own insurance is supposted to cover the bike. Maybe they figured this guy was a sucker and gave him the bill instead.

WOW! you are in no way responsible  for repairing that bike. The dealership has insurance to cover it...that is the chance they are taking when they let someone ride a new bike.

The one at my local dealer did. A couple got wrecked at the special track day Ducati had in Italy.. What's the deal?

mny theory is that it's a lot more bike than people realize, or they are letting anyone and everyone ride it so they will eventually get to someone who can't handle it or doens't know how to handle it and down they go.

for 19,000, if you arent paying tax and title and all that crap, its a bit of a deal if its not that scratched up!

I've talked to the guys down at my local dealer.  They do have insurance on the bikes, but I would assume it is just to cover personal injury.  They make you sign a waiver and photocopy your license.  If you read the waiver closely, you'll see that they do expect you to cover any repairs that are necessary if you in any way damage the bike.  I was there just last month and was hearing about a guy who dropped their 696 demo.  They did everything at cost for him and it ended up being around $900 after parts and labor.  Bottom line is, always read what you sign and be prepared for the worst.  Look at me, Mr. Positive

It is definately way more bike than a lot of people think, it's easily the quickest bike I've ever had, starting to get used to it. but this bike puts out a few more hp than the 1098 and is a good bit lighter.
