Recently cleaned, rim was clean-ish (minor road grime, but no goblins) before I took it out today.  Came back, and I've got spots of grease on the inside of my rear rim - only on the sprocket side.
The grease appears to be consistent with the chain grease, and is limited to the chain side of the bike.  There are a few flecks elsewhere on the underside of the bike (frame under the seat, inside the rear wheel hugger), but it is really only in the area of the rear sprocket.  I've got some pretty poor pics if anyone is having trouble visualizing, but I don't know how helpful they'll be.

Road for about 75mi +/-, in town, highway, steady in some curves, etc... everything but stop-n-go.
Did have one brief blast up towards a buck on the highway, but no burnouts or wheelies - so no real ripping throttle maneuvers.

Question- is this just grease working it's way off my chain, or an early symptom of something more serious (wheel bearing, etc..)?

Thanks in advance.

Wheel bearing grease would most likely migrate past the seal and start to coat the hub portion of the wheel.

Sounds like the chain flinging some extra grease.

Have you lubed it recently?

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

Sounds like normal chain fling to me.

It's not migrating past the seal... the grease isn't really in the area of the hub at all.

Last dose of Bel-Ray was this winter, so I'm probably due.

Thanks again.

*sounds* like normal chain fling.

To reduce chain fling, get the chain warm, then use Chain Wax and a rag to clean the chain and lube at the same time.  Really rub it down.  The wax will work it's way into the O-rings, but you won't have excess on the chain itself.
