My '06 S4R Red with Black stripe 1 0f the 100 "Final Edition" bikes  is dead.  Hit a deer Saturday @ 40mph.  it ran out from behind a fence, I had no time to react just hoped the front end would come up enough to ride over instead of through the deer...that didn't happen..only solace is the deer is dead too, if it wasn't I'm sure my husband would have went over and killed it.  He was riding behind me on his new tricolore.

I escaped with rash on my left knee as my jeans wore through, and just a lot of bruises mostly to the right side, and very very sore...amazingly no broken bones  [thumbsup]

My Helmet, Jacket and Gloves are torn up.  As my husband said, they are 1 time use and they did their job, and that they did.  So to all those out there that think its too warm I'll ride without the jacket today or I don't need a full face helmet or gloves...my face would have been shredded by the pavement, not to mention my hands, shoulders and arms.  You just never know what will happen when your out riding.

So have fun , be safe and wear your gear  [thumbsup] [moto]

Fear #1: blowout on either tire
Fear #2: Deer.  Plenty of em here in mid mo.
Fear #3: Slow moving farm equipment while cresting a hill (also plenty here)

Glad you're ok.  I rode without my gloves on the other day "just down the road" and I really felt naket.  Won't happen again.

stories like this are a good example of why you should always wear gear.

Sorry about the bike, glad you're ok.

Sorry about the bike.  Most important is you came out of it OK.  Thanks for the gear reminder.

Good gear is sooooooo worth it!

Sorry about the bike, but glad you're well enough to tell us all about it.

And yes, I'm sure that after seeing you run through the deer, your husband was MORE than ready to kill it if it had survived.

Last few times I've been out riding I've seen numerous deer, very dangerous. It's not even mating season yet this year and they are everywhere. Last year in November I hit one with my old Mercedes turbodiesel at 90mph. I don't remember seeing so many of them until recent years, but they are out there everywhere and they are just plain stupid and will step right out in front of you so as usual keep both eyes peeled and on the path ahead, scanning for the stupid fvckers because you don't want to hit one at speed. We need more deer hunters.

Sorry to hear about your bike but glad to hear you are OK!  +1 to wearing the gear. Maybe you will get moto specific pants now?  They would have kept you from getting rash on your leg.

First of all, it's good to hear that you're ok. What an unexpected thing to have happen!!! Your insurance should pay for your bike since you did hit the dear. Ironically, I was told my my progressive agent that it's always better to hit a deer than swerve and hit something/someone else. Now that was in discussion about my SUV not a motorcycle. But from an insurance point of view, the deer wasn't supposed to be on the road in the first place and therefore not your fault for hitting.

Regarding fear #1, aren't motorcycle tires designed to slowly deflate?? I've never heard of anyone having a "blowout" similar to that which happens in a car.

Glad to hear that you are OK.  Sorry to hear about your bike.  This is a great example of always wearing the appropriate gear.  Sometimes I get on my friends for riding in short sleeves to work.  They usually say something like, "I am just coming to work,  I am not riding hard."  I guess they will figure it out the hard way.  You never know what is going to happen.

Hope you heal up soon!

Sorry about the bike..

I don't see anyone ranting or lecturing. To what post are you referring? I see people genuinely happy that the OP survived and did as well as she did because of her gear and stating the obvious about the fact that her gear helped a ton.

Anyways, to the OP, sorry to hear about the bike and your injuries but glad you are relatively ok. Get well soon! If there's anything we can do, let us know.

So glad you're ok! I can't imagine hitting a dear. I live in Miami, so no dear. One scarred the shit out of me last weekend in Colorado. It jumped out onto the highway then back. I think if I saw one on the bike I'd still be screaming! Hope you heal up quickly!
