some airlines now require cash for in-flight food or beverage purchases.

Whereas JetBlue now requires a debit/credit card and will not accept cash for in-flight purchases.

^ good advice.

but why not put it on a cc that gives cash back, and make an immediate payment since you have the cash? earn a few bucks of cash back rewards, or frequent flyer miles, or whatever in the process

because using cash doesn't require signing a contract where the CC company can change the terms at their whim?  because the "rewards" the CC's give are a pittance and just a tool to get you to use it more thus generating more income for the CC's via transaction charges to the sellers which are ultimately pushed back down to the customer?  because there is no account number to electronically swipe and commit identity theft with?

Play with snakes and you will eventually get bit.

Most credit cards give you protection against dishonest merchants.  Some credit cards will provide insurance for rental cars.  So there are some benefits in addition to convenience.

I haven't thought about it all that much but to answer your question...

No.

Kinda makes all those "Easier than Cash! Theft prevention!" ads seem retarded, no?

I try to carry cash as much as possible. Barring that, I bring the wife.  :P

Wow, this was interesting read.  I will have to make sure to carry cash for the long rides from now on considering we stop many times to fill up.  Glad I read this.

The part about some places not taking cash does not sound legal to me.

In addition, denying transaction using a credit card because the charge amount is small is illegal.  So I hear but have no confirmation if it is a State or Federal thing.  Anyone know?

I don't think there is a law that says they have to accept cards.

Why wouldn't they be able to set a min purchase/
