God dammit mother make the beast with two backs

make the beast with two backs!

On my recent trip across NY my card stops working at the pump or inside.

I pay my balance in full every month so that's not it.

I call my credit union that by visa card is through and they tell me they have added new security to the cards because they've had a lot of fraud at the gas pumps.

So now my visa card only works two times in 24/hrs at the pump.

This is so make the beast with two backsing inconvenient I can't even begin to explain. Well, you all probably understand.

I don't know if it's all visa cards or just the ones through my credit union.

Better call your card company before you leave for any sort of trip on your moto.

My gas light comes on at 100 miles

I only brought so much cash.

Can't they waive that? I know I have charged more than the $1000 limit/day on my debit card before and all I had to do was call them to waive it...

I feel your pain.

Last year on my Nova Scotia trip, the gas stations were placing a $150 hold on my account for 3 days every time I used my card to buy $10 worth of gas.

I always carry three credit cards just because, well, you never know, things happen. Yes, your credit card company is ridiculous and you are rightfully pissed off since their policy could have left you stranded. In some rural parts of the US I would consider this policy a threat to safety. I would say it is letter writing time

+1 they should be able to waive that for you. I've had my Chase Visa get locked while on the road before, and a phone call fixed the problem. Pissed me off that it took until the next morning though.

it's not an uncommon policy and, yes, it's fraud prevention.

it's happened to a handful of guys in our group that rides up to laguna every year. i think we do like 5-6 fuel stops in a day.

you should be able to call them beforehand and tell them you're travelling and to expect a lot of gas station charges.

i'm lazy, i just use one of my other cards for the rest of the day.

i spent 3 weeks without credit cards (master and visa) last summer in chicago, good thing i had my colleague with me in a business trip

FYI it's not really VISA itself doing this to you, it's the bank.. Not all banks are the same. Not all cards within a bank are the same. My Business Card is wway more sensitive for some reason. Meh... Check cards are where it's at.

is that with a debit card, or a true credit card?

my problem last spring was that the max i could purchase at the pump with my card was 100.00, which was only giving me a little over half a tank of diesel at the price then. so i was filling up 3 times a day during my trip across country. luckily, never had my card rejected.

sux either way.........hope there are still places that take cash........although inconvenient compared to pay-at-the-pump

I had the same problem with my VISA card in Italy while trying to put gas in ... it was a huge PITA.

It is/was a common tactic for villains to try out stolen credit cards at gas stations. $5 here or there to test the card and try to fly under the radar. So a lot of banks/card cos have become suspicions of frequent, low dollar charges from gas stations.
