So I just passed 20k on the bike and decided that it was time to change the fuel filter. I've been trying to isolate a backfiring problem I have had for a while now and figured this would be something to look into.

All I can say is holy crap..To put it simply I wasnt expecting what I saw because I always use decent gas (Chevron, 76, or Shell). As I disconnected the filter the residual gas inside of the assembly leaked out.

Pictures below of what I found..

CLEAN YOUR FILTERS!!
You mean replace your filters.

Fuel filters are cheap and you can't really clean them well for the small particles.

So how did you get all of that junk out of the filter?  Running gas through it backwards?

typo...fixed now..  ;D

I bought a new one. after all that crap came out I took a hammer to the old plastic one to see what it looked like from the inside. its looked like it had been buried underground for a year and then dug up. I'm wondering what my injectors look like now..
