Okay…here it is….

Ride report – June 5-7

Friday:  We get up early (6am) to leave for State College, PA.  Amazingly, we got my bike (rode two-up for this leg of the trip) packed the night before and got out of the house fairly quickly.

The ride down to State College on 219 was okay.  We hit misty rain around Bradford and it continued till we got to SC.   There was also a lot of road construction both on 219 and I-80 east that slowed us up a bit.  We pulled into Kissell Motorsports around 2:30.

B’s “new” bike was all set.  We did all the paperwork and got on our way.  We stopped back in town to grab a bite to eat.

Next stop:  Leonard Harrison State Park, Wellsboro, PA; our base for the rest of the weekend.  We were going to catch some rally action.   R000Y  The SPTR event of the Rally America series was in town.  A good friend of mine from back in VT is Lead Tech on Travis Pastrana’s Subaru Rally Team USA car.

Our campsite:

Saturday:  We drove out to Germania, PA to the service area.  It is great fun to watch the cars come in from stages with all sorts of carnage, only to have the techs work their magic and have the cars back out for the next set of stages in a half-hour.

Travis and Co-driver, Christian hanging with the fans.

Pasatrana's car in service (someone's blocking the view.   Tongue)

Block's car in service

Carnage rolling in:

The required (mobile) shop boobies poster on one team's trailer:

Saturday night the rally ended with a Super Special stage at the Tioga County Fairgrounds.  At this point Ken Block was only leading by minute over teammate Pastrana.  Fellow teammate Dave Mirra, rolled his car in one of the final stages of the afternoon and didn’t make the Super Special.  It was fun to watch.  The course was more like rally-cross than the stadium stage they do at the X-Games.  There was a small jump at the end.  Some took it slow, others didn’t.  Two cars had to be towed off the course after the jump.

In the end, Block was able to hang on to his lead and beat Pastrana.

Sunday:  We slept in and were not in hurry to leave the campground.  We packed up, serviced our chains, and headed out to the overlook in the park.  The park is located on the east rim of the PA “Grand Canyon.”  After shooting a few pictures, we were on the road back to Buffalo.

Looking south:

Again we hit rain.   :bang:bang:  We stopped in Wellsville, NY for grub at Texas Hot’s and then continued home.   The rained finally stopped and we were home around 6pm.

It was a great weekend!!
