"Coolest beemer bobber" is a bit like "world's tallest midget" in my book.
But to each their own
Seriously, I dig parts of it (tires, overall design). Other parts (boxer engine), not so much.

Those huge carbs and centerstand are pretty amusing...
I kinda like the boxer engine - on cold days it keeps your feet nice 'n toasty.

I just picked up my second bike, the r75/5 on the end here:
Was this bike originally one of these?

Actually, the pushrods look to be underneath -- this must be a r75 class motor or newer?

I like it. It's kinda bulky and mean lookin'. I'm not a fan of the colors though.

Bah, read the article
r90 motor and parts of the frame are from an older BMW -- a lot of custom stuff -- pretty creative bike.

The R90 engine was like a Bavarian tractor - it would go forever with almost no maintenance. You could do your own valve clearances in about 20 minutes with a set of box wrenches and a feeler gauge (in the toolkit). And that 20 minutes included time for a beer.
The brakes, however, on that bike were pitiful. The first time I grabbed a handful of Brembo I nearly launched.
(And that was with the stock single disc up front, which they seem to have ditched for the custom. Yikes)

Yeah, getting a feel of this first-hand -- just rode the S4 home after riding the r75/5 a lot the past couple weeks and it's a completely different beast

There are some amusing things about it for sure. I actually like the color scheme, and the crazy center stand. Kind of steampunk.
The drum brakes all around - ha ha. I couldn't go back to drums if you paid me. But it's pretty.
I had an r80 I used to ride around the Alps.
That damn engine made the twisties more of a casual experience.
