GM selling Saab to....Koenigsegg??? wtf?

Koenigsegg produces 18 cars a year and employs 45 people, and there has been some doubt as to whether it has the expertise to run Saab, which sold 93,000 cars in 2008.
18 cars per year?? 45 people?? to run Saab? wow.

It'll be good for Saab to be back in Swedish ownership, though. GM wasn't really doing them any favors.

Does Koenigsegg have enough money to buy Saab?

I think they are getting Swedish gov loans to do the buy.
My thought is that they are simply totally different companies though. Koenigsegg is not a real car company --18 cars per year versus almost 100k?
totally custom supply lines versus massive off the shelf?
sort of like a mom & pop store winning the lottery and buying 7/11 -- all of it.

Saab is already a company on their own - management and all. They probably don't need much from Koenigsegg. I'm kinda surprised they didn't do a management buyout. I don't see Koenigsegg adding or receiving much value to/from Saab.

Actually, that's a very good point, they already have a whole management structure in place, but i think the issue is the executive management.
However, it would be interesting if Saab got some supercar focus and put out a roadster..

What if this now allows them to "mass produce" a cheaper version of the Koenigsegg?

I would say like a mom and pop buying a Walmart, but the analogy is valid.

Yeah, but I would expect my 7/11 coffee to last longer than the average saab.

As much as all of this is unfortunate (or fortunate) for GM, I am interested to see the products they put out. You've got to admit that a company as innovative as Koenigsegg with the US dealer network (if that's included in the deal) of Saab could be exciting.
My sentiments on this extend to Chrysler/Fiat as well.
