Stebel also recommends that the horn compressor is installed within 15 degrees from vertical.

Completely correct.  Being a shallow individual, in the name of vanity I ignored Stebel.... ;) so we'll see how my inclined installation endures...

Fair enough Ungeheuer. I believe we can both agree that the Stebel horn itself is rather hideous...
I don't own a Ducati...but I wrench on one.

BTW, I found out that the left mounting screw for the tank is missing - it fell out or Ducati forgot it

Mine was also missing so I replaced it. I read somewhere they they were intentionally left off.

I just checked the workshop manual and in section L-2, Fuel/Exhaust System - Fuel Tank, it only shows the bolt and washer on the right side in the diagram. In the sub sections, Removal of the Fuel Tank and Refitting the Fuel Tank, it only mentions removing and torquing on the right side also. I thought about taking mine off, but left it there.

You have a point there

They may have left it out because it is a pain to install it with the vent hoses in the way - who knows???

My bike doesn't have one either. So I tend to think it missing intentionally....

I had the Wolo Bad Boy (rebadged Stebel) and mounted it more than 15° from verticle. Stebel makes this recommendation for a reason, the Wolo lasted about 8 months...

i'm starting to think it's due to plastic tank warpage and cracking. just a  theory. but if you lock it down at 3 hard points and heat or flex happens then you're gonna get cracks, but with a 2 point and a third slop hold down point you can get some movement or flex without cracking... any thoughts.. didn't mean to threadjack but i been wanting to comment about this.

I'm with you on this, which is why I've been thinking about removing it.

Oh and concerning the Stebel, I think the it looks fine. I bought the Wolo last year and tried to cram it where the oil cooler goes. I decided it was just too tight for my liking and returned it, never occurred to me to mount it on the side like you did. Nice job.

Did you wire it up straight, or install a relay?  I would imagine this sucker draws a bit more power than the stocker.

Yes, the horn draws quite a bit more than the stock horn (18a)

i installed the relay. The install instructions warn against direct wiring - the horn switch will burn out

The horn comes with the relay and the wiring kit comes with an inline fuse (30a I think), enough wiring and connectors for the entire install

The supplied instructions and the wiring kit makes it SUPER easy to install the horn

how has it been working on an incline? any problems?
  - real place

He Man

i had this horn, and i killed it in a year. Yes i use my horn that much, and there has been several cases where i held it down for a good minute. Some dumb pregnant dog decided to park her car in a 4pm-7pm NO STANDING zone (because they open that lane up for rush hour traffic) PILES AND PILES of cars were trying to go around her, and i made it my buisness to sit there and lay the law down with my left thumb while she was chit chatting on the phone.

Then my horn broke a few weeks later. Worth it to see the terror in her eyes.

Dunno mate - sold the 696 and its Stebel long ago.  I installed another Stebel on my M1100, but it's installed - vertical as per Stebel's instructions - in the vast freed-up space where the airbox now isnt.
