M696 Stebel Nautilus horn mod

Hi Everyone
Here are some pics of my latest mod
I got the horn from BikerHiway ( I got it on sale $39.99 plus they threw in the wiring/conectors kit)
Here's the link...
http://www.bikerhiway.com/parts-accessories-motorcycle-air-horns-c-244_29.html?zenid=46a97cf3934d2b50ec42fa58e0e05f1c
I chose to mount the horn on the left frame slider rather than behind the front shroud- I will probably get an oil cooler for my next oil change
Thanks for the great tutorial ungeheuer (I found that you don't have to remove the tank completely - I just propped it up)
I made the bracket out of 303 stainless (14 ga. or 2mm I think)
I also took the opportunity to put all the stickers under the seat and under the centre tank panel - looks much better
BTW, I found out that the left mounting screw for the tank is missing - it fell out or Ducati forgot it
Just so you know, it is makes the beast with two backsing LOUD!!!
Let me know what you think

Good on finding a place to fit it, but in my opinion it sticks out like a sore thumb! I think you could fit it where the charcoal canister is and tuck it under the fairing grill there. Order the "Euro" piece that takes the place of the canister and you can probably fit it behind that and you wouldn't even see it. Just my two cents...

Then he'd mount the oil cooler where???

Do you mean when he gets the oil cooler or the one that's on there because I don't see oil cooler lines. Of course, you could fit the oil cooler behind the grill and the horn where the charcoal canister is and everyone is happy

I don't think you could get both under the shrowd. Correct me if you have FHE.

Oops, sorry missed that. Well, this oil cooler kit fits under the main/stock shroud and you should be able to fit (shoehorn at very least) the Stebel under the Euro shroud...

Oh nopey nope nope... I dont think so... It was quite a feat just cramming the Stebel under the shroud...

....no way you're gonna fit this air horn AND an oil cooler under there. One or the other is your choice. If
BucciMonster
has plans for an oil cooler then the Stebel
had
to find some other place.

1) Thanks for the great tutorial ungeheuer (I found that you don't have to remove the tank completely - I just propped it up)
2) I made the bracket out of 303 stainless (14 ga. or 2mm I think)
3) BTW, I found out that the left mounting screw for the tank is missing - it fell out or Ducati forgot it
4) Let me know what you think
1) You're most welcome - I've received much help from this place so its nice to give a little in return
2) Neat bracket
3) They're all like that apparently - I just had to replace the "missing" bolt too...lol
4) I think I like the Stebel Nautilus to be heard and not seen..... but then again my oil wont be running as cool as yours
So good job on finding
any
other place to mount it I reckon! Might be nice if you tidy up the wiring though...

Did you wire it up straight, or install a relay? I would imagine this sucker draws a bit more power than the stocker.

Just to be clear, I am suggesting that the Stebel be placed where the charcoal canister is and then covered (at least partially) with the Euro Shroud (which is like $30)- not placed where the oil cooler would go. And since YOU placed your Stebel where the oil cooler would go, I don't see how you could know so definitively that it won't fit where I am suggesting.

The oil cooler lines are running pretty much straight through where you propose to put it.
It may work but i just took the shroud off, and mounted the stock horn on the right side to one of the shroud screw holes. I'll post pictures when i can. I'm thinking of getting the Stebel Magnum and putting it in the same spot, but frankly, i rarely touch my horn. I don't think that would work with the Nautilus.

I think that's a fabulous place to put it. I know my knee would hit it there (probably not a big deal, and not my bike anyway!), but it works well with the slider as though it were made to go there.
Maybe you could route the wires behind the frame and subframe (less visible that way)?

I understood completely your suggestion that the charcoal canister be dumped and the horn be placed there in its stead. It may even be possible for it to at least partially hide under that larger US spec LHS shroud cover - (although I dunno for sure coz mine never had a charcoal canister fitted) but I can promise y'all that there's no way it will fit behind the so-called Euro Shroud, space is just too limited. Its was a very tight fit getting it in under the main centre section. So having assessed the available real-estate under both the main shroud and the even-less-room-behind-the-euro-shroud than is possibly available behind the larger US shroud.... I dont believe it will fit.
But I'm happy for you to show me otherwise

There is plenty of clearance for your knee - i intend to tidy up the wires (pics were taken during install)
On the M696, there is not much of a choice of where to put the horn -behind the shroud, it barely fits - even without the oil cooler.
Stebel also recommends that the horn compressor is installed within 15 degrees from vertical. Maybe I am too anal about the installation???
You could mount it in place of the canister but I intend to keep mine on - maybe that is the environmentalist in me
I may actually try to mount the compressor remotely - I think that the hi/low horn can be removed from the compressor - I like to try it without breaking it
I'll keep you posted -thanks for all the feedback

I think it ties in nicely w/ the overall naked/industrial theme of the monsters
That being said, I would recommend wrapping all the wires in black shrink tubing so it blends in a bit, the red sticks out a shade. Or tuck it around behind the frame
