so i'm taking my first set of board exams and then i'm off to celebrate riding to boone for a day then down to deal's gap.  any tips?  I've heard speeding on the weekends is probably a bad idea but i'd be there in the middle of the week so hopefully it won't be as patrolled.

Hook up with JourneyMan, he lives in the area and can tell you some really great roads to ride. The Gap is great but 28 is awesome as well, and there's tons of roads to hit up around Cashiers/Brevard/Highlands.

The Gap is becoming more travelled during the week so don't expect it to be empty and don't think the LEOs won't be there. Make a run or two and see if there's any cops sitting around and gage the traffic level. If there are people on the road, you'll get plenty of warning about a cop before you see them (hand tapping the helmet).

so i survived the dragon.  it actually exceeded my expectations.  for anyone who hasn't gone i def recommend the trip if you're within a reasonable distance.  only two of us ended up going and we managed to make it through the trip without any close calls.  the police honestly weren't that bad, i was there on a wednesday so that might have affected the number of officers but there were HUNDREDS of bikes there regardless of it being in the middle of the week. 
the rest of the trip around boone was pretty sweet too.  for those familiar with the area, Hwy 221 from Blowing Rock to Linville, Hwy 181 to Morganton and Hwy 80 (all around the boone area)  were all really good roads for motorcycles.  good pavement and low traffic on the weekdays.

28 is terribly dull and straight, roads around Cashiers/Brevard/Highlands are just boring. Don't come down here, ah, I mean go there.

Actually upper/north 28 is one of the twistiest roads anywhere and the end from Highlands to Walhalla, S.C. is Nirvana. Look up the WarWoman (road) too.

Of course YRMV.
