It's just the German Polizei version of the Sig P225.  Very few differences, cut-out hammer, stiffer spring.  It's also a single-stack 9mm.

The finish isn't great but it is at least a 20yo police gun, so that's to be expected.  And it's an easy fix anyway.

My 22 cal tack drivers.

The Savage was originally used for local competitions and I built the Ruger for fun, but through a lucky combination of parts the Ruger is nearly as accurate and I prefer to shoot it all the time now.  Also own a Browning Buckmark and a Mossberg 590M.

Hey, I've been looking at a savage just like that and wanted to ask someone who owns one what they think of 'em. How is it for pretty accurate plinking. I just picked upa cheap 22lr by mossberg for my wife as an introductory gun to shooting, I figured it was agood start for a cheap tack driver since she has been showing an interest lately, but I didn't want to start out too expensive in case she doesn't really end up liking it. My thought was to have her upgrade to this model of Savage after a while, so if you could either post up here or PM me to let me know what you think of it that would be greatly appreciated.

Happy to post here Doc as others may be interested...

My Savage is the Mk II  BTVS, and tell the truth, I bought it because it looks so purdy!  I actually went to the gun shop to purchase a FV which has the same action and barrel but in blued carbon steel not stainless, and a composite stock, at half the price.  I did some reasearch before buying a Savage and they were always highly rated for price and acccuracy.  The Accu-Trigger feature is decent and can be tuned for a nice release.   If I were buying another, just for shooting and not looking at it, I'd go for the FV.  Savage lists retail of FV in 22LR at $280...the BTVSS lists for $455.  They also have a BTV whith is the blued heavy barel in the thumbhole stock for $405.

Yesterday I found what might be my new carry gun.  Went into the gun shop to pick up a new AR lower but found something I've been looking for for a while.  The consignment case is just inside the door and right up on the top shelf was a Sig P6.  Gonna take it to the range next weekend and test drive it.  After that, it may make it's way into the 228's holster.  We shall see.

The orange is not rust.  It's just the reflection of the light.

the P6 allegedly has a slightly different feed ramp made for the German police, since they are limited to ball ammo only.  there is 100% parts compatibility with the commercial P225 so you can swap barrels and fix that if it's a problem.  I have heard of a few issues with HP but nothing that can't be done.

I picked up a Glock 19 Austrian polizei trade-in a while back -- Century Arms had bought all of them up and put target sights on them to comply with import laws.  I dumped the target sights and it's an awesome gun -- plus it is made in Austria as opposed to Georgia, and I have to tell you the difference are noticeable.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

This is true but I've read it really only affects the 147gr bullets.  Supposedly, some of the later production models fixed the feed ramp issue.  I haven't checked mine yet.

Century Arms also imported this P6.  The sights seem to be the originals and they'll be replaced sometime in the near future.  I need some kind of contrast.  As for country of manufacture, I was pretty stoked about this.  Now I have a 228 made in Germany and a 225/P6 made in West Germany.

Yeah, that last bolt gun has a lot of drop in the wood stock. What is that?

And that looks like grade 6 wood on the first two scatterguns. Very pretty. [thumbsup]

Is that foot a DPMS model? [laugh]

Nice hardware! [thumbsup] This is always one of my favorite no-moto threads.

You sticking with iron sights or thinking groovy optics? I just slapped one of Leupold's Mark AR 3x9 mil dot scopes on my latest AR. GG&G Dominator 16" 1 in 7 full floater, Rock River lower and ARMS quick release rings. I'm real happy with it. Never have put a scope on an AR, always red dots. Reflex II or Aimpoints. There are a couple of wild hogs out there with my name on them!!
