"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

They mostly carried this:

Not sure of the numbers, but many infantry carried the M1903 and they continued making them thru the A3 and A4 models until the end of the war.

cases..2 spam cans each.  i have a few mosins, i bought a few M44s when they were super cheap.  i have a couple of Finn mosins too.  I love Mosins.

i buy ammo when its cheap, whether or not i have a gun for it.  i think i paid about 5c round for most of the mosin ammo i have when it first started showing up.

milsurp ammo always dries up and always goes up in value.  i bought 5 pallets of the tokarev ammo for cheap.  i sold a single spam can of it recently and that paid for the entire original purchase.

You're correct about the M1903 use and continued manufacture pretty much throughout WWII, didn't know that and thought the M1 had taken over by then.

Quoted from Wikipedia: "The M1903 and the M1903A3 rifle were used in combat alongside the M1 Garand by the U.S. military during World War II and saw extensive use and action in the hands of U.S. troops in Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. The U.S. Marines were initially armed with M1903 rifles in early battles in the Pacific, such as the Battle of Guadalcanal, but the jungle battle environment generally favored self-loading rifles;[13] later Army units arriving to the island were armed with the M1 Garand.[14] The U.S. Army Rangers were also a major user of the M1903 and the M1903A3 during World War II with the Springfield being preferred over the M1 Garand for certain commando missions.

According to Bruce Canfield's encyclopedic U.S. Infantry Weapons of WW II, final variants of the M1903 (the A3 and A4) were delivered in February 1944. By then, most American combat troops had been re-equipped with the M1 Garand. However, some front-line infantry units in both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps retained M1903s as infantry rifles beyond that date and continued to use them alongside the M1 Garand until the end of the Second World War in 1945. The Springfield remained in service for snipers (using the M1903A4), grenadiers (using a spigot type rifle 22 mm grenade launcher) and Marine Scout Sniper units."

I'm partial to M14's and saw one for sale yesterday at the Reno Gun Show.  It had a serial number about 5,000 and I could care less about serial numbers, also allegedly had some upgrades, match barrel, etc., guy was asking $3400.  Aaaargh.

Shifting gears a bit.

Here's a shot of my Del-Ton Echo 316 M.O.E.

It came with a lot of Magpul stuff but I added a bit more such as the sling attachements, the rear sight, and the little lever thingie that allows you to lock/release the bolt with the right index finger (works great btw).

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

You need to get a longer Troy rail on that gun and the bolt release thingie, you'll make that call a few hundred rounds in.  ;)

Is it counter bored?

Not that that's a bad thing.

I put a recoil pad on mine. Haven't had it out with it on there yet.

It is not.  I plan on buying a pad for it, the 45-70 kicks enough so I couldn't bear shooting them both on the same day without.
