anybody carry while riding?

I'm thinking about getting one of those belly wraps, since IWB ain't gonna rock, especially in the event of a crash (where I'll likely be landing) and the IWB holsters conceal great when you aren't leaning forward...

most moto jackets have a wallet pocket right above the left side that doubles as a pistol pocket.  i wouldn't carry more than a small mousegun, I used to have a KelTec but upgraded to the Ruger LCP.  With the pocket pal holster, it fits perfectly and is accessible -- once you get the gloves off.

It's not an easy setup no matter what.  Hopefully, I'll never need to use it like that.  I can get the glove off fast enough, but then ahve to open the jacket, etc.

With a belly band you are in for it -- remove glove, open jacket, yank up your shirt and bra, and then get to it.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

my shirt has a built in bra so i'm one step simpler, thankyouverymuch.

+1 on the Keltec being a good carry gun while riding as it is VERY small or of course a Beretta Tomcat would be another choice.

Waiting til my shoulder heals and then will be taking my Ohio CCW.

Finally the laws have smoothed out enough over the past three years so it is actually somewhat "clear." on how you can carry, etc.

I'd say a tank bag would be a good spot....but in my state I do not think that would be legal.

Just sent in my application for the Arizona elk tag draw, for muzzle loader season. If I'm drawn, I'll have time to finish this off:

The barrel is a .50 cal Green Mountain Hawken replica, with a tight 1 in 28 twist (so not a round-ball gun; it's made for Minie-style bullets or sabots). As you can see, there are more than a couple of parts left to track down (trigger, lock, rod, misc. hardware), but I shot the barrel in a different stock and it shot nice, tight groups with hunting loads & hefty 384 grain Hornady Great Plains bullets.

It's got some good juju to it, if the legend on the stock is to be believed.

Guys, this is a cool thread.  Please, let's leave any and all talk that could possibly be construed as political out of here.  Don't want to see it get locked due to a misunderstanding.

Thanks.

i have nearly the same rifle, but made by Hawken -- for about 10 years now!  I love black powder.  the looks you get at the range are priceless -- especially when that long slow black plume comes out the muzzle.

i've never tried minies in mine.  i get pretty good <150 yd accuracy with plain ball.  i should try that.

put a few peppercorns in your powder mix, it will make the meat taste better

An actual Hawken -- VERY cool; I'd love to see one of those. Given the era, it was probably designed as a ball gun -- I've got another rifle with a slow, 1 in 66" twist that does great with a round ball but can't stabilize a bullet very well. The predecessor to this barrel as my hunting gun project was a Thompson/Center Renegade (a medium 1 in 48" twist that generally does OK with either ball or bullet) that I must have run a hundred or more rounds through and could never find a load & projectile that it wouldn't spray all over the place. Weird, because that T/C model generally has a good reputation, but that barrel wasn't it.

The boutique PR firm I'm a partner in did a marketing project for the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association's Winter Shoot http://www.nmlra.org/shootsDetails.asp?cat=NMLRA%20Sponsored&ID=188 next weekend in Phoenix. I'll be down there for a day or so, but one of my partners (the one who brought in the client) will be there the whole week showing off his Hawken replica built around a 1960s Bill Large .58 caliber barrel. I've shot it a few times, and it's a beautiful piece of work.  Large was a custom barrel builder from the 1930s (I think) through the early 1980s and has a great reputation. George claims he's taking it down to the shoot to sell, but I described it to a friend yesterday as "The gun George is trying hard not to get too attached to."  [laugh]

Didn't mean for my post to come off as political as it was meant to following the law, which is completely different then politics.

However, at your wishes, I will not post about the legal aspect of safely and carrying within the law in my state of residence.

gun talk only.

think I am going to start saving up for a Springfield M1A.

Thought about getting an AK, but already have a M4, so don't see the point right now. I'd rather have a higher powered rifle.

I've been thinking a lot about a CETME (Or HK-91), or a FN-FAL.

I've seen CETMEs is decent shape for ~$700. Anybody have much experience with any of the three above rifles?

(Also looking seriously at a Sig 556. Shot a friend's, and really liked it.)

Wasn't so much directed at you Judd, or anyone in particular.  The thread was almost locked a while back and I just wanted to make sure it stayed open.

As far as the next rifle goes, have you thought about something like an SR-25/SASS?

zarn02

I'm trying to stay away from direct impingement.

Fair enough.  Rumor has it that LMT will release a piston variant with the MRP platform in 7.62.

I am also looking at getting an LWRC upper in 6.8 to go along with the SR-15 E3 that I just bought.

Almost all of hte CETMES are Century and range from "lousy" to "decent."

You can find dozens of different makes of FALs so you can find htem cheap(er) to super expensive.  The barrel ban made prices jump a few years back, but so much surplus items came in you can still find deals.  I have a couple of FALs and I love them more than any of the others.  The PTR/HK91 rifle is nice but much scarcer.  FALs are widely used and have tons of aftermarket stuf.

You'll get a lot of input from your CETME or FAL etc. post. I also am a big fan of FALs. All of mine are Belgian FNs and one Argentine (actually a real nice one!), even have two sear cut G series rifles. I have never shot a DSA/FAL but I have read goods things about them. I read a torture test on one years ago and it came through like a champ! I forget how many rounds they ran straight through it but it was damn impressive. [thumbsup]
