Been looking at Springfield XD pistols lately.

Anyone here have one or shot one before?

I'm thinking .45 so I can keep shooting the same ammo I have on hand now (and reload)

Many people love them.  They are technically very excellent guns, improving upon the Glock design with a lot of enhancements.

Not bad for a Croatian design.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

The Hooligan Plumber has one in .40

I've put about 50 rnds through it

It handles factory and reloads just fine

much better than my S&W

I read some of that discussion you guys were having...

I don't get it

Monsterlover

Apparently the design of the polygonal rifleing doesn't work with lead.

Causes bad lead fouling problems.

I should probably ask a gun dealer. They should know.

Maybe there's an XD forum...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygonal_rifling

It states that one of the advantages is less lead fouling and then it goes into detail about increased lead fouling...

so again, I don't get it

it sounds like one gun blew up so now there is the hysteria

I figure shoot whatever and clean your gun when your done and you wont have an issue

I haven't seen a gun yet that a good brush, hoppes, and elbow grease wont clean

but to your question about the XD's

all we fired through it was FMJ so I dunno about wadcutters

Snake

Just picked up a Springfield XDm in 9mm last week.  Great gun right out of the box...but like most people here, I can't leave well enough alone  ;D  Looking into building an open class gun out of it (threaded bar-sto barrel, compensator, mag well, powder river trigger, etc).  The best part about the XD is the amount of aftermarket parts out there.

by the way, the forum you were looking for is www.xdtalk.com

Does the manual say anything about using jacked rounds only or is lead ok?

I've heard Glock, H&K and XD users having no problem with lead bullets with the polygonal rifling and having no problems..  YMMV. Try these guys...

I've shot an XDm recently. Quite liked it. I'm more into ccw handguns, or big honkin' purty handguns (like revolvers, 1911s, etcetera), but it was pleasant to shoot. Not sure if its authorized for duty carry, but it seems like it would be fantastic for that. Again, my guns experiences is hobby, not work - so I could be mistaken.

Monsterlover

I don't need it for duty or carry.

I just need it ;)

I can't think of a better reason than that.   [thumbsup]

The real reason is:

I recently bought a Sistema 1911 (Argentine made) .45 that I got for $400

After playing with it for a bit, I start thinking about things like better sights, and a different trigger and. . .

And I kind of don't want to mess with it because it's old, original and cool.  Frame, slide and barrel all numbers match.

I was at a friends house the other day and he showed me a Taurus 1911 with all the goodies that was like $600 new.

I was in awe of how slick the slide action was, along with the trigger pull.  It was just a really nice gun.

So instead of messing with my original Sistema I'm thinking I'd just pick up something new that's mostly tricked out (in comparison) from the get go.

Still on my list is an AR and a 12 gauge :D
