I think its important that you aren't misled by manufacturers claims about "custom". Kimber's Custom Line are not custom. Its just the name of that assembly line. Sure they have more bells and whistles, but they are not custom in the way that a Nighthawk or Wilson is.

If you are looking at nice ones, I might suggest perusing the options from Wilson, Nighthawk, Les Baer, STI, Ed Brown, and I'm sure there are some others I'm forgetting.

FWIW, I don't believe in a double stack 1911 and would caution you to look at those with a skeptical eye.

Im not looking for another 1911. . .

Been looking at XD45's

i still think you should look at a made in texas STI. [cheeky]

Monsterlover

Just looked through their website.

Nice firearms, but pricey!!

No way I'd get away with spending $1000+ on a pistol.

I don't even think I could let myself do it [laugh]

I'll take a look in the manual when I get home from work.  I use jacketed bullets exclusively in pretty much all of my guns, so I really never bothered to check if they would work in the XD.

I know. I'd want to pick mine up at the "factory" but I don't think they are set up for face-to-face sales, just dealer sales.

They have the GP9 which is a standard pistol (non 1911), iirc.

Sinister (Gregor) swears by his Ed Brown 1911.

I've just never found the appeal with the 1911.

Maybe as I could never conceal it because it is a large frame, but also never understood all the modding with barrels, internals, etc so you can bench rest a group at 50 feet.

If you need a handgun for a 50ft shot.............you've got the wrong gun.

I think last I read from FBI Crime Stats, 95% of gun violence (whatever you want to call it) occurs within 15 feet.

If you've never found the appeal, it shouldn't make sense. (Not saying anyone who a 1911 does appeal to makes sense, it's just one of those things.)

I think it's one of those personal preferences based on how people are wired. I get it, a m gets it, as do most in the 1911 thread. I don't get Glocks... most people do.

Just chalk it up to diversity.  [thumbsup]

A 1911 is the thinnest you can get an all metal .45 except for a Kahr possibly

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

The Kahr 40 I play with is also crazy thin. My 1911 wears thin grips, full size frame, and 4" barrel. Conceals very well, but then again, I'm a large mammal.

I'd agree to that.

It's just a gun I have very little interest in. I really don't like the safety mechanism on it, but I am sure most people love it that own them.

It's why some of us mod the bikes we do and others do their own thing.

I have a friend with a 2000 750 Dark and he is keeping it all stock. Claims that is how the engineers and designers built it, so that is how it is supposed to look. Not my idea, but whatever.

With modern technology of polymers, why does it really matter if it is all metal construction?

Possibly if you are shooting thousands and thousands of rounds through it?

The XD has conventional rifling and is just fine with cast bullets.  As far as high cap 45's go, I'd go with the XD.  The Glock has a huge unsupported area of case between the feedramp and the slide face.  I blew one up with a +P load.  The gun stayed locked up but the unsupported area of the case blew out, blew out the trigger group and the right side of the frame. Blew the mag out and stuffed the first few bullets back into their cases.   It stung a little too.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

sheesh. they build them with the dp ecu, free flowing filter and pipes, and then dumb them down to get through emissions regs. but that's a whole 'nother thread (and not really applicable to a 00 750, which was carbed...)

I'm never a big fan of the 'how far do you ride in a year' threads,

but it sure would be interesting to see a ratio of shots fired versus words posted on this one.
