yup.  the M14 is really just an updated, scaled down version of the M1.  The Italians liked the M1's beefy receiver though and made the BM59 which is a friggin' awesome gun.  Box mag 7.62.

i have the folding stock, they were one of Choate's early contracts.  I took it off, it was annoying, mine is a late Springfield Armory "bush" model with a short barrel.

The BM59s are cool guns. Never fired one and I haven't seen one in a long time.

I meant 16" barrel bush model like yours... typo'd when I wrote 18". [bang] Didn't know Choate made those and your'e right they aren't "comfy" to shoot. Looks cool but kinda sucky to actually shoot. This is what mine looks like:

That thing looks like it only weighs a couple more lbs than my folding stocked m1 carbine.........with 4x the recoil!

That is not mine, mine is a plastic/nylon type like Choate's other stocks.  They sell one now, but it looks nothing like the one I have.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I have a parts kit for an AR70 and receiver ready to go, just need a long weekend to TIG it all together.

no it just trims the case to correct length and chamfers the mouth for seating the head

Case trimming is the most awful and time consuming aspect of reloading

and I run through a few thousand rounds a year of 308, .223 and 30-06 and generally will cycle my brass 4-5 times in auto-loading rifles

that is a nice tool

what do you reload with?  tell me a dillon

no I am an absolute Luddite and still use a single stage RCBS.

I load for accuracy so I prep and sort cases, and hand-weigh each charge on the scale...

I throw a short charge and trickle feed it up to full weight into the scale pan

time consuming enough

but it eliminates ammo consistency as one of the variables in the accuracy equation

luddite?  You're a make the beast with two backsing nut.  :o  hand weigh each charge?  do you file the projectiles down to weigh the same too??

that being said, there is something about the super precision stuff that i just can't get into but appreciate.  sort of like looking at supermodels.  i'd make the beast with two backs it, but i wouldn't pursue it.

Well I use mostly Sierra Match King heads and will weight-sort them for some batches when I find a good load for a given tube

the other thing I like about the Giraud is that you can trim the meplats on the hollow points

yeah its a hobby that allows my obsessive-compulsive nature to take over

now if you want a real laugh...I shoot mostly rack grade USGI rifles that I will tweak and tune to get the best possible accuracy out of

If a barrel has a good throat, clean muzzle crown and the bore isn't coke-bottled I will eventually find the perfect round for it

It is kind of a hoot to show up at the line with a beater-looking Garand and out-shoot the scoped Fudd rifles on either side of my bench

Tiffers

suppose I should step in here as Spencer Pratt...er....Macon Sheriff Buelton spends the majority of his time and post my gun.

As I am sure he said, I learned to shoot from Dave Sevigny. For what it's worth, I have a much better shot than Jud hehe.

I used own a Para-Ordinance single stack 1911 and a USP Socom. I am a .45 fan. I won't own anything else. Therefore, for my 28th birthday, my interesting husban bought me this:

Glock Model 21 with trijicon night sights and a hogue grip. No what I envisioned as a present, but I love guns, was without one, so it fit nicely.

I am taking my CCW at the end of the month  [thumbsup]
