I got the parts from Blue Grouse Muzzleloaders.  I do not think he is currently in business.  He was getting the old Hopkins and Allen parts.  They are super simple, the trigger guard is the mainspring.  They have incredibly fast locktimes and at least the two I have, are pretty accurate.  I've only shot two squirrels with this one.  My flinter lays a big guilt trip on me if I don't take it.  Using the underhammer is almost like cheating.

Nice LAR 50.  A friend of mine built 50's for a few years and I did most of his demo and test shooting around the country.  They are certainly interesting.

Sig 250 Subcompact in 9mm.  Holds 12, nose heavy but nice to shoot, handle is small but it packs nicely.  Im waiting for a better selection of MOB holsters.  Still getting used to the DAO.

Is that AR an old pre-ban Sporter Lightweight. Kinda looks like one. That's my behind the closet door farm gun with an original Surefire Millennium fore end. I'm thinking mine has a bayonet lug. Looks like yours doesn't. I've had mine a good long time but I was a little older than 8 when I got it! [laugh] Neat stuff you got there! [thumbsup]

edit: You know the more I think about it I don't believe mine has the lug either. I'll check it out next time I'm at the farm.

Yup, Sporter Lightweight.  Brother got the HBAR 'cause he was older and could handle the weight better.  [thumbsup]

Explain pre-ban for the noob please

Pre-ban describes "assault weapons" manufactured before the 1994 Federal Assault Weapon Act.  "Assault weapons" (not assault rifles, which are select-fire or simply full auto) were described as such:

QuoteSemi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)

Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold
Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm

Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following:
Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Fixed capacity of more than 5 rounds
Detachable magazine

So, pretty much having two or more of anything that was cool was banned.  For example, you could have an AR-15 (semi-auto with detachable mag and pistol grip) with a collapsing stock, or a flash suppressor, but not both.  Putting an aftermarket collapsing stock on a gun with a flash suppressor would be illegal too, IFIRC.

Guns manufactured prior to the ban were grandfathered in, and remained legal.  Thus, pre-ban guns and magazines were worth a SHIT TON more than post ban rifles until the act expired in 2004.  Unfortunately, prices didn't drop... the manufacturers just realized they could charge that much and people would still buy.  The term is kinda moot these days, since you can get all the goodies in most states no problem, but I'm still proud of having a pre-ban AR-15 by god.

Absolutely nothing! [thumbsup] I think we all need a M203 grenade launcher. It could very well cure a lot of our culture's ills. [thumbsup]

Nothing like a .223 and .308 platform. [thumbsup] Does the "biggin'" use M1A mags?

The Biggun is a Rock River LAR8.  It uses metric and inch FAL mags.  I found that to be a nice feature as they cost $5-$10 at gun shows.

I say no merge, since it's my thread.

Keep posting pics here, but let us divert the discussion of firearm awesomeness to the other thread.

Dumbass report here! [bang] I have both FALs and M1As and know the damn difference in mags. [bang] I have no freaking idea why I typed M1A and not FAL. I type a lot of stupid shit. :P I have actually never shot a .308 AR. Don't know anyone who has one. Guess I need to make more friends!! [laugh]

Makes a nice big boom!

The AR10 magazine is based on M1A mags.  Not sure if they are directly interchangeable.

Similar rifles, you werent too far off.   [thumbsup]

It's a bit finnicky about which magazines will seat/drop free.  I would say about 50% of the milsurp FAL mags I buy work like butter.  25% need a little tweaking and the final 25% are a lost cause.  I have a box of rejects.

If I was smart, I'd lug the beast to the local gun show and test fit each mag before I buy.....too much like work.

M1A mags will not work in an AR-10.  Magpul is now making AR-10 mags - if they are anything like most of their other products, they should be great.
