What the heck is it?

So, I have been lurking around this forum for about six months now and it's encouraged me to really get familiar with my bike.

Now I know where the charcoal cannister is but what is its function and why do most of you remove it?

I love the DMF as its helped me do my own mods. Something I would have never even thought about doing on my own. Before I would have rather taken my bike to the dealer and paid an arm and a leg. Thanks DMF.

it's an emissions thing... filters out fuel vapor

depending on the bike, it's a total eyesore on the front, or placed in the back where it would interfere w/mounting high pipes.

Instead of allowing fuel vapors to enter the atmosphere they are stored in the charcoal canister and are burned in the engine  while the bike is running.  Nice idea, but they do clog over time and load up with liquid gas when the tank is over stuffed, plus they are butt ugly.  It is also, unlike your car, a semi sealed system.

so do you have to put it back when you registering your bike?

No, not yet.

BTW, I had no idea what the cannister was at first, just found it in the way when I went to put on my Termis.

Called up the dealership I had ordered the Termi kit from, and they said, "That thing?  It's to save the baby seals." ;)

Can any one give the info on how to remove it. Where do the lines get re-routed to if they do at all.
