Ask any wife of mine.....be it the old one or the new one, and they will tell you that I can be quite the douche bag from time to time.

I have a tendency to work my mouth when in public, and work my fingers when on the net.

Most of the time, reason and logic will take over and I'll back track down my mouths road to ruin, and start say'n my sorrys and asking people for forgiveness.

Most of the time...... but not always.

Sometimes I cant let things go all that easily.

Some of you, here and at TOB have been on the receiving end of my stupidity.

My stupidity helps build a mental image of the person on the receiving end of my anger. More times than not.... the image I build, is distorted and twisted, which when recalled, is all the more reason  to pick on, bash, or belittle the person on the other end.

Back at TOB, I had a couple of targets out there that when the opportunity popped up, I'd pounce in and poke them with the biggest stick I could find.

(*identity edit) was one of those targets. I can't count the number of times I took posted jabs at him. I did  it so often, it even spilled over onto other boards.

I'm not sure why or how it started, but odds are, it was my stupidity that was the genesis.

At some point I said a slew of hurtfull things and he called me out on them via personal messages.

I thank him for that, because up until then, (this is going to sound retarded), I never really saw the guy as a human, he had just been somebody I disagreed with, and made fun of. He took the first step. He was the better man.

(*identity edit) and I have never met. Every so often he and I may pm each other of non specific stuff, but that's about it.

A while back, I posted up a pic that happened to show the windshield of my truck. It was cracked. (*identity edit) had posted up in the thread that I should have it replaced ASAP before I get a ticket. One of these days, was my response.

Cut to a couple of days ago..... out of nowhere I get a pm from (*identity edit) asking how the job search is going and if I've fixed the truck windshield or not. Nothing on the horizon in regards to a job, and I'll  fix the window later, was my response.

Tuesday afternoon I got a phone call from the Safelite people wanting to set up an appointment to have my window replaced, courtesy of a secret pay it forward person on the DMF.

A couple of pm's later.... I knew the identity of said secret person. (*identity edit) did it.

It was installed this afternoon.

I like playing games against people who are better than me. I like riding with people who are better than me. I like hanging out with people who are smarter that me and I like having discussions with people who have opinions that differ from mine. Why..... because thats how I best learn, and thats how I best grow.

Lately, there have been a couple of threads locked, because people just can't get past themselves, and it reminds me of how I was before (*identity edit) stepped in and showed himself to be the better man.

Thank you (*identity edit) , for not only the gift of a new windshield, but the more important gift of showing me how to be a better man [thumbsup]

Nice story.

Can we make this required reading for new members?  [beer]

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

This story was a very nice, and much needed change from what has been going on the last couple weeks.

Glad to hear there is some good in the world.

You deserve it, Joel!

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

I thought...

Life Is A Carnival

You can walk on the water, drown in the sand
You can fly off a mountaintop if anybody can
Run away, run away--it's the restless age
Look away, look away--you can turn the page
Hey, buddy, would you like to buy a watch real cheap
Here on the street
I got six on each arm and two more round my feet
Life is a carnival--believe it or not
Life is a carnival--two bits a shot
