I ride in this horrifying downpour and my wheels developed these spots. They wont come of without a brillo pad and 3 minutes of scrubing. I soaked my wheel in simple green for a few hours and it still wont come of. Does anyone have any cleaninig recommendations. My wheel looks disgusting. I tried carb cleaner, simple green, detergent, ajax. nothing.

Depending on where on the tire the spots are have you tried any tire black products? Something like Armor All or Black Magic.

yea i tried WD-40. no go. hell i even tried BRAKE FLUID. nothing. (no the brake fluid did not strip the paint or even rub of any black on the towel.) ill snap some pics tomorrow when i try attacking it with some kerosine. Im still trying to figure out waht it is. My swingarm has road grime that i had to use sandpaper to rub of. I need to get that thing coated. |

Armor All or any tire shine product on tires is not a good idea, particulaly on bikes. These products make tires slippery. |

Yeah that makes sense. I figured if it was really close to the rim and in a spot where in no possible way would you be riding on it then it would be worth a try. |

When you use that armor all stuff on your rim, it gets flung when you ride an onto the edge of your wheel. Ask me how i know.  so this is my rim now.  and a close up.....  The right side is after i tried a brillo pad. WTF IS THIS STUFF>   |

Its called "white spotting". Caused by harsh chemicals attacking the powercoat. The rain (moisture) caused them to show up, the damage was already done.
Nothing you can do except powercoat. Try some Nu-Finish type car polish, it might help hide them a little.
Stay away from wheel cleaners, many contain very harsh chemicals.
