I bought what i thought was a standard sprocket but its only got 39 teeth.
the old one has 42.
to add to the confusion a few online stores lsit it as being 46 teeth.

anyone have any idea?

Dunno about the '96 m600 but according to CA-Cycleworks the late mode (99-01) m600s came with 46s.

The same year m900 had 39 rear though.
ErkZ NOT in SLO w/ his '95 m900!
The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

15 teeth front sprocket and 46 teeth rear sprocket.

If you do a lot of heavy traffic use a 14 tooth front

Your '96 has a Pantah engine and has different primary gearing than the later models, therefore a different sprocket.  I think it was a 38 tooth from the factory.

right. i called my Ducati Dealer and the parts dude told me.

i have a 97 M600  not a 96  and he neede the chassis number cos it changes mid year.

Mine has a 5 speed box  and indeed should have a 43 toothed rear.
some earlier ones have a different gearset and have a 38 rear

6 speed box ones have 46

so the long and short of it is i have the wrong one.
