I too love the looks of the MH900E.

I have a friend I told about how I'd like to someday have one .

He said although they are beautiful to look at , they are crap as far as a bike that is reliable and functional on a daily basis.

Bummed me out to hear that. I trust my friend.

He has been around Ducatis a lot of years.

I'll second this thought.  Really bargin basement suspension and a history of being a poor performer (mechanically).
I'm not really versed in the why's and what's as it has a air the cooled 900, which is solid otherwise, but I've never heard anything positive abouth the bike.  Other than she's a beauty.

Do your research before you buy.

Owner of the local BMW dealership has one.

He says it's a torture device disguised as a motorcycle. laughingdp
If I had the $$, I'd buy one and set it in my den as art.

The only negative i've heard was electronics, and that it was a joy to ride. i'd sell my pinky toe for one. i can figure out the electronics.

The original hailwood rep would be my choice even those go for silly money now but not as much as an MHE.
here in the UK there are 3 MHE's for sale on biketrader and they are all 11-12K with 0-3k miles.
To put it into perspective.
12k here buys a new 1098 or a streetfighter.
would also get you a used 1098 tricolore.
or
a choice of 3 999R's or my personal choice a 996RS.

I always thought they were good looking bikes(the replicas) until one day I noticed the fake sump bolt to the bottom of the engine. I gotta say that REALLY turned me off the bike. It's like bolting cooling fins on a liquid cooled bike to get the right "look".

I thinks he's talking about the big decorative piece that bolts to the bottom of the motor?

Sorry I may have confused you. I meant bolted not bolt this is the piece I'm talking about.

It's nothing but a huge hunk of weight bolted there for no other reason than to get the "look" right. Waste of raw material IMO.

I had a poster of Hailwood swooping into a left hander fully cranked over on a Honda 250cc 6 cylinder. I lost that poster long ago but the picture remains firmly planted in my mind. Mike the Bike. John Surtees. Heros from a different time.

Would this be the poster?

An older italian guy, probably in his 60's, was riding one of these at the NEDOC track day yesterday.  He was going pretty good.  Nice to see one being ridden, I think it's a shame to put any Duc on a pedestal.
