Why does mileage matter?

if you can cash buy a truck for 7k

and the motor goes tits in 6 months

you can get a brand new long block for 1800

then you are still in the truck for less than KBB with a new motor

Only from working on them for 20 years in body shops.

What does body work have to do with reliability? Isn't body work usually associated with a collision?

I've owned Toyota (several) and Ford (a) trucks. I bought an '09 Dodge and it's far and above the best truck I have owned. Toyota's are reliable but the comfort level is very low, ride is horrendous compared to the Ram I'm driving.  I got a bad Ford and won't give them my money again. I'm sure some of them are fine.

The Dodge is powerful, comfortable, and well thought out in terms of usefullness and accesability. As far as reliability? I just hit 4500 miles (bought Jan 1) so I can't say. Check back in ten years.

In that case why not buy one with a blown motor and replace the engine? You get a much lower price and a new mill in it.

:P

Generally I'm not one to comment on another's religon, but you brought it up....

My full sized Chevy pick-up truck and my Harley-Davidson Glide have been more reliable than any of the two dozen or so Ducatis I've had over the past 23+ years, which doesn't keep me from loving my Ducatis anyway.

If your religon requires adherents to deny themselves the pleasures of owning great American vehicles, I don't think I'll be converting any time soon!

Unfortunately no one makes a full size truck on par with the Americans. The Tundra is close but way more expensive. I would have had to spend $10K more to get the Tundra similarly equipped.

Monsterlover

I looked at the truck late Saturday and found it needed a cab corner.

My friend that owns a body shop told me $350-$500 a side to replace.

They wouldn't budge on the price so I told them to suck it.

I'd rather take that $500 and add another $200 to it and ship something in from Az or some other arid state.

The search continues...

Agreed. I had a 02 F150. 78k miles, 1 recall (cruise control wiring). Only traded it in because I needed a 4WD. New truck is an 09 F150 for quite a bit less than a comparably equipped Toyota or Nissan...

i have a 2000 nissan crew cab 4x4 with almost 300k..............not one problem, ever! i have owned American cars and, i stand by what i said earlier. after 80k American vehicles just seem to fall apart. the rattles and squeaks drive me crazy!

there is a reason Japanese trucks cost more, they are better.

So

you've had one positive experience with a vehicle

Well, it was with a woman, and I've stuck with them ever since.

What's it like sleeping with guys?

Or is that not the point you wanted to make?

my family owns a building supply company with approximately 15-20 light duty trucks.  once the truck is out of warranty the repairs must not exceed 45% of the trucks current value, if it does the truck gets sold. that being said..........american vehicles just don't last as long. i don't know any other way to put it. this isn't a "one positive experience" thing.

i hope american car companies get their shit together but, until they do i am buying Japanese.
