Jesus-none of you can survive without a cell phone? What'd you do before them?

Am I the only one tired of being expected to be available 24-7?
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

I like this law now i know i can sue and win when that dip shit on the phone hits me. and trust me you can tell and when it comes to court you better believe that their cell phone records are coming out.

They already do this in the UK.

I was talking to a guy in my company who is a britt and lives outside of London.

He pretty much said whenever there is a car accident the police call the mobile provider to see when the last text message was sent. It goes straight into the police report.

That is a little too big brotherish for me, though.

No

i've said it before

I would love a cataclysm

roll tech right back to the days of jeremiah johnson

at least until I get sick or need surgery

then i wouldn't mind a time warp to about 500 years from now

[laugh]A cell phone at a car accident seems like finding a knife at a stabbing.....seems like a reasonable thing to check.
Hi-ho-hi-ho....its off to the track I go.................

OK, now I get a bit more serious:

I get as pissed off as everyone else when an idiot almost runs me off the rode when they are preoccupied with (on the cell, texting, speaking to their passenger, changing their radio, READING A BOOK). Go ahead and fill in the blank. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all these are still legal in at least 48 states. The only reason why they still have not banned cell phones while driving in California is because, like hbliam mentioned, the level of impairment is not quantifiable. The best they could come up with was forcing people to use handfrees (bluetooth). Unless you're going to stock LEO's with x-ray vision to figure out why this particular driver keeps staring at their crotch, then this "law" would simply be a waste of various people's time. Not to mention our tax dollars.

I bet where I live this filthy rich police department will enact a "Text Messaging Task Force"

So their going to invest in the x-ray vision glasses?

How would you prove the level of impairment? I think I could walk ten paces in a straight line and talk on the phone at the same time. Whatabout all the people so stupid that they can't drive well even when that is all they are doing? Can I arrest them too?

I've been wishing someone would do that!!!   ;D

cell phones already have GPS and GPS does not require their own network of sats. They triangulate position based on the location of known orbiting sats.

uuuh.mmm
maybe i am misunderstanding you, but GPS (global positioning system) IS a network of satellites. they do indeed triangulate your position based on the known position of orbiting satellites. managed by the DOD, and free to access (with proper equipment) so long as the DOD deems it to not be detrimental to national security
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

redxblack

What I meant is they're not a separate network for that purpose.

herm

uh, yeah...they are.
if you are referring to the global positioning satellites, which make up the system.
if you are referring to the "capability" that many (most) cell phones now have, then yes......they borrow the information from the GPS satellites.

sorry to be picky, but i am still not clear what you are saying.

He's saying more of you should insist of GPS, more satellites, and a raise for me, the builder of satellites.

Although if you do not really wish for additional satellites, but want me to have more money, you may send it to me directly.

I've gotten sick of my coworkers endangering my life as they take a call or send emails on their BB while driving, so I've taken to either confiscating the BB or the car. :P

Oh, and I've now also got them all trained not to expect me to answer the phone when I'm commuting on my bike. [thumbsup]

We're on the same page, but I'm not being clear. I meant AT&T wouldn't be launching additional GPS trackers, it's an existing network. It's not separate by carriers or receivers, unlike DirecTV, Dish Network, etc. It's not like they'd need more "bandwidth" and thus more trackers.
