Another Craigslist Gem:

Seriously?  Salvage title and he thinks that he can still get $6695?
I think he's pretty optimistic myself.  KBB for that model and year in my area is $7235

Wait, there's more: "still driving the bike"?? Don't you ride them not drive them? I tend to ride mine. Do you really have to point out that it has a single sided swingarm? Isn't that like saying it has an engine and two wheels? I love the "deep throaty purr" remark!!! I don't believe I have ever seen a "rebuilt title"... wonder if the title had a big bore kit installed and the belts replaced during the rebuild? I love Monsters, I really like my S2R1000, but are they really rare and no offense to all the S2R800 owners but is it really the "best monster Ducati made"? Lastly, thank God he wasn't the one who laid it down! That pretty much firms up the deal for me. I would never buy a bike from someone who laid it down. laughingdp

Ducati makes up around 1% of all the bikes in the US. I guess EVERY SINGLE DUC is "very rare". Compared to a gixxer, an 848 is practically a statistical impossibility!

So here's a guy who picked up a scraped duc at a salvage yard or auction and patched the scrapes up. Now he's trying to flip is $2k investment into a retail sale. He'll either find some rube or have a nice bike in his garage for a while. Buyer beware.

Perhaps now would be a good time to sell my ultra rare pearl white S4RS. Based on his asking price for the 800 I'd say $50,000 for my RS would be fair. waytogo

One of my favorites from the ad:

"The Price is firm at 6,695 (Firm, Please lets not waste each other's time with low-ball offers: We both know how much these Monsters are worth and we both know that the S2R-800 is a rare breed and probably the best monster Ducati made."

I liked that part to. He's really convincing! "we both know it!!"

If it's worth $6695 to him then I wish him the best. My guess is he'll still be riding it next year, or he'll come down on the price.

Hell, that is about what I paid for my 06 S2R two years ago with less then 1000 miles on it, from the dealer.  But hey, it is a rare breed.  He was a little confused though, instead of the 800 being "the best monster Ducati ever made", he should have referenced it as "the fastest monster Ducati ever made".  It would have definately sold then.  And WTF?  He didn't even mention the turbocharger, helium filled tires, and unobtainium frame and swingarm.  Talk about missing the high points.

He probably will get it or close to it.  I have seen it happen a few times around here (VA).  Guys who don't know anything read "Ducati" on the side and are willing to pay 5-6K.  You just have to wait long enough for them to find you.  It is a Ducati, it has to be worth at least that much, right?  bang head  I think I would feel bad ripping someone off horribly.

He should mention that it isn't yellow (the slowest color). that added to the price and description would put him in the running for the douchebag trifecta.
