odd gearing noise

I posted awhile back that my 2001 m900 was making a strange noise in 6th gear, but not in any other gear. It is sort of a whirling noise.......not sure how else to describe it. Yesterday the bike began to make an odd noise with every shift.........whenever I would squeeze the clutch lever. The noise was a light sounding noise and barely audible and not rough sounding in any way, but perhaps like something is worn.

I'm quite sure I need to have a look at my clutch pack and see what's up, but thought I would post hear to see what suggestions those of the more mechanically experienced might have.

any thoughts are welcome and much appreciated.

Sounds like your bearing on the pressure plate is giving up.

If it is your clutch throwout bearing, replace it as soon as possible, before it wrecks your clutch slave.  The bearings are relatively cheap, even when purchased from a Ducati dealer.

When I replaced mine (after it had wrecked the clutch slave), I was even able to talk the dealer into pressing out the old bearing and pressing in the new one at no additional charge.  Took about three minutes.

On the dry clutch Ducatis it's easy enough to check the throwout bearing.  Remove four allen screws to get the clutch cover off, then six more to get the clutch springs out and the pressure plate will pull off.  If the bearing is anything other than completely smooth, replace it.
