Sticky Starter Switch

My starter switch sticks. It used to be an occasional irritant, but after opening it up and cleaning/lubing the switch now it sticks harder and more often than ever. When I push the button in it doesn't come back out unless you push it again (and again and again...) until it pops out or when it's bad you have to pull it back out. This can be extra embarrassing when you kill it at a busy intersection and you already look like an idiot.

Anyone else have this problem, or know of a solution?

If it were me, I would see if I couldn't replace that switch.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

If the switch is over tight that can cause the sticking.  Try loosening it a little.  If it now spins the locating nubs are probably gone.  No big deal.  Wrap a layer of electrical tape on the bar where the switch goes.  That will give the switch enough traction to stay put without making it too tight.

If that doesn't work, follow MrIncredible's advice.

If you tightened the screws too much, this is sure to happen. Ask me how I know  [roll]

I'll bite, how do you know...

I'll check to see how tight it is tonight.

I've had the same problem.  My switches now have one layer of duct tape between them and the handlebar.  Now I'm able to tighten them enough that they don't rotate, but none of the switches stick.
