I didn't make $90k my first 3 years as a full-time physician. That, of course, was after a year of subspecialty fellowship (during which I made nearly $30k working 60-70 hour weeks), 4 years of residency (during which I made $20-25k working 70-80 hour weeks), 4 years of medical school (that I paid for), and 4 years of college (that I paid for). I worked all through college and medical school part-time, but I never got a year-round regular paycheck until I was 24 and was nearly 30 when I finished my training and started paying back my student loans. Like most people in most jobs, I had to buy my own clothes, as well as white coats, stethoscopes, etc., etc. (including socks.) Have you ever priced ophthalmoscopes? I went through several during my training, funded by cleaning mouse shit out of cages and washing down autopsy tables (which, incidentally, paid more per hour than I made practicing medicine until I'd been in practice for a few years.)

No complaints - I chose to do this, knew I'd have to go into debt to train, and knew my high school classmates who did apprenticeships would out-earn me for the first dozen years of our respective careers and would retire years earlier. I greatly enjoy my work (and do make more than $90k now). It's just that I don't have much concern for someone who has to buy crappy, overpriced, monopoly-sourced socks for their work. I've got loads of patients at the moment who would wait in line outside in February in New Hampshire to buy those socks if it meant they could get full-time work, especially with some benefits.

Life is full of all sorts of petty crap such as supervisors' wives sneaking around to write people up. Almost every nurse I know, for example, has quite literally been shit on at work. There's an obnoxious aspect to any job you can think of. Whingeing on about it just increases the indignation. It's useless, too.

Don't like your job? There's a support group for that. It's called everybody. We meet at the bar.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Yup. I love mine more than most people, but not every day. I'm sure Hugh Hefner and Peter North occasionally hate theirs.

Come to think of it, I'm meeting a colleague for a drink soon so he can complain about his job.
