Financial Dist Street Parking
«
on:
August 04, 2009, 04:04:11 PM »
So last time I worked in Downtown San Francisco Financial District, I was a pedestrian.
Now I have a M900. What are some of the places on the street to park and at what times do they fill up. I will be at 50 California.
I know I am setting myself up for failure cause if you have a sweet spot, you wouldn't give it up!
But I know there are some Bike street parking on Fremont and off Mission, etc. In general, what time should I be heading into the city to get a space??
I don't start til 10Am and will probably hit the gym so I can come in really early if I have to...
Thanks

10 AM? Good luck. I've found the street parking on Drumm St. to be pretty much gone by then. Less so in the winter (wimps) but in the summer it's all taken by 9-9:30 AM.
Consider going to Five Star Parking over between Clay & Washington (about a block away)
They have dedicated bike parking and you get an access card to let yourself in and out.
Monthly fee is maybe 50% more than street parking ($90) but I've found it to be worth it to always have a spot where I can even keep my bike overnight if I'd like. Plus in theory the parking fee is tax deductible.

Parking fees are tax deductible? Or just because it's commuting-related? My lease on my apartment is technically split between garage and apartment, even though I was not able to decline the garage component.

Get there early and cross your fingers. I'd show up before 8:30 if you want a spot on the street. Or like DM says--just pay for the garage. Totally worth it.

Check the resources thread (

) for the where to park question. As for when, I'm sorry I can't help. Last time I worked in the city was pre-dotcom crash.

Commute-related
parking fees are deductable. i.e. The parking needs to be near work and away from home.
My employer uses wageworks, so they even take the money out, pre-tax, and pay the parking fees directly.

Good to know.
DM, IIRC, our first Ducati date was in a Financial District parking lot. We used to park in the same garage. I left a DML card on Bling Senior, and a love of the ages was born. <dreamy smiley>
It's been like 4 years since I worked in the Financial District. Just thinking about it gets my PTSD all aflutter.

I think I knocked your bike over, parked down on Spear St. right off Market. Then I rode off.

Great news. There is like 60 spaces on Drumm Street by Embarcadero 4 and the small Park.
As of 9AM, it is half full. As of 1PM still a few spaces. Its $2.50 for 10 hours (25c / Hr)
And there is a nice Sport1000 Monoposto you can park next to..lol
Thanks for all the replies
