...but will a taillight with integrated turn signals pass NY State Inspection?  Huh?
I'm wondering what is "legal" now that everyone is having such a tough time with tickets and stuff.

I think integrated is illegal because the lights need to stick out from the bike a certain distance.

Not legal. Whether they pass inspection depends on how well you know the person doing the inspection.  Wink

Though not legal, I've never had any problem with passing.  I'm not a fan of the CA lights, but the ViziTec light is ballin'!  Of course I don't own the Monster anymore, but Bernard is humoring me and developing one for the Daytona 675... Grin

Recent reviews have stated the CA lights to be absolute crap, their quality has gone down hill.  I'm going to be running an LP (lockhart phillips) integrated tail on my bike.  If inspection is a problem just hold on to your stock signals and put them back on for it.  Or go to another place  Wink

I've never heard of anyone with integrated tail/turn lights being failed on inspection.

Here is the "official" requirements from NYS DMV:
http://www.nysdmv.com/mcmanual/mclicenses.htm

Quote
A MOTORCYCLE MUST HAVE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT IN GOOD WORKING ORDER:

    * Approved lights, including headlight, taillight, stop lamp and license plate lamp, at least one red reflector on the rear and directional signals if the motorcycle was originally equipped with directionals or is a 1985 or newer model.
    * Brakes, on 1971 and newer motorcycles brakes are required on both wheels.
    * A horn or other warning device.
    * At least one rearview mirror mounted on a handle bar, although mirrors on both handlebars are strongly recommended.
    * A suitable muffler, "cutouts" or mufflers with removable baffles are prohibited.
    * Handlebars no more than 15 inches higher than the seat.
    * A seat for the operator and a passenger seat in the rear if a passenger is carried (no more than one passenger is permitted).

well, the question is whether the station is looking at the phrase "approved lights...etc" as meaning something.  if i dig up the statute, it will probably say "US DOT APPROVED" which I can guarantee you the integrated setup is not.

if I was trying to pull one, I might just claim it was on the bike when you got it... but i would not recommend that..  at the end of the day, it might be a good idea to kluge some DOT lights back on for inspections.
