Probably some kind of touring tire for down there (yep, lotta straight roads, but not far from really good hill country roads). My guess is Pilot Road or Pilot Road 2CT are going to be the popular recommendation.

Get sport touring tires.  All of the major brands are quite good, although currently I prefer Avon and Pirelli.

Sport touring tires are also the answer for most riders who live where there are are lots of twisty roads like here in Northern California.  Very few riders can use the additional traction available from more performance oriented tires and sport touring tires have the advantage that you don't really need to warm them up before they work well.

Where abouts in south Texas?  Few of us here in San Antonio. There's some good roads but you need to know where to look.  [thumbsup]

I'm in Dallas, sport touring > sport tires for the roads in and around the Big D. I can't imagine, even in 'hill country', feeling inadequate with pilot roads. or the 2ct version. I had pilot powers when I was back in TN, and had a lot of fun doing this and that with them, but I was also less than 5 minutes, no matter where you were, from some awesome curvy back roads with little traffic.
