Whats up with the new maintenance schedules?

Hello, I am about to get my first monster and have learned that there is a new schedule that, as I have heard, be a little easier and cheaper.  If i'm wrong please just let me know.  Also, if there is any location or thread that compares the old to new way they are doing it I would be happy to be pointed there.  If not and you might just give a quick line or two about it, thank you. The new maintenance schedule was introduced on the 2007 models. I haven't heard of any changes since.

And, since 2007, it has been "cheaper and easier" because the interval is longer - every 7,500 miles instead of every 6,000 miles.

Not that the services themselves are cheaper or easier.  Just that they happen with less frequency.

If I recall correctly, Ducati used to have a service at 600miles. They still do, but it is only an oil change/filter and check all fluid levels and chain tension. At 7500miles, they want you to take it to the dealer. I'm at 6600 now, and will be taking it in near the end of the month. not sure of the cost yet. I hear alot of conflicting stories.

Thanks.  Definitely will be going that route.  As rarely as I've been able to find time to ride, it'll be a few more months before I hit the 7500 mark.

The real expense is in finding DOT approved blinker fluid.

By 7,500 miles my parking brake cable was shot and I had to have it replaced. You wouldn't believe how much Ducati parking brake parts cost. My reverse gear was badly worn, but they were able repair it instead of replacing it. Still cost a bundle, though.

If its going to cost me 1k, then I am going to have to learn how to do all the maintence myself. I can't shop around, The only Duc service is at my dealer who is 30 miles away. The next closest is over 100 at ChicagoCycle and I dont think I want to take it there.

Getting the wrong fluid isn't a big deal - you can add a few diodes in the circuit and it'll still work.

Was anyone actually able to hit the 12.000 km or 7.500 miles in one year ?
I parked the bike at the dealer with 9000 km and went for the big service.
This year I will do a lot less I think.
Still I have to do the next big service after two years..
In a way I am ok with doing it once a year, because I am a mechanical n00b and want the bike in best condition.
Still...I think its a marketing trick more than a real offer
