Ok.... I thought it was pretty cool several years ago.  But Now I am just sick and tired of it. So how the heck do I get kick stand off.  Its been soaking in PB and I have yet to turn it  1/4.  Yes this is on a 96 M900 CARBIE.  i HAVE THE MOD BOLT so it will no longer be a suicide stand once I get that freaking bolt out!  Any advice? After nine years, I finally did away with the suicide stand on my '98 ST2 a few weeks ago. To get my sidestand off, I just removed the two bolts that hold the bracket onto the case and removed the whole sidestand assembly. I found it pretty easy to take the assembly apart this way. If you do this, use blue locktite when attaching it back on the engine case and check the torque a few times after riding it to make sure it doesn't loosen up.

D - have you got the stand off the bike?

Would a newer - non flip up just bolt up in it's place?
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I'm sure it would, as this is a modification that a lot of people do with the '98 ST2 bikes to get rid of the weird-looking "dogleg" sidestand. Not like it is any real issue, but the newer ones have an engine kill switch that mounts to the sidestand....you'll just need to take the switch assembly off since there is nothing to hook it up to.

Nope that sucker is still on there.  I have the nicholas bolt so I want to use the same stand.  The idea of removing the entire unit then removing the center bolt may be the solution unless he-man live near my garage and can break the bolt free. Though I Am up to  a full replacement if the job is simpler.  [beer]dc

Finding a newer one on Ebay might not be too hard.

And there's always impact tools...

Heat can often be your friend. Never know, a previous owner may have used red locktite on the stand and it will require heat, anyway. I've got an industrial heat gun that I wind up using a lot when working on vehicles.

Get it off the bike first, then you can use a home owners propane torch to heat it up.

Is that bolt left loosey righty tighty? dc

If it has red locktite, DD is right, heat will soften it up.  Otherwise, try a mix of acetone and transmission fluid.  Works great to loosen bots.

If you can get it off the bike you can always try bringing the whole kickstand assembly to a repair shop. They'll have impact guns and shouldn't charge much to loosen one bolt.

Two wheels good. Four wheels bad.

does anyone have an old schematic of the m900

erik822

Do you mean owner's manual or workshop manual?

You can download either one as a PDF here (free):

or from www.duc.nu (not free, but darn close)

I have the service manual but the parts schematic shows the break out of how things come apart which I am lacking.
