Anybody repacked their Termi cans?

Would like to repack my side by side Termis on the S2R.  Have found some references to a Termi repack kit but cannot find it for sale.  Has anyone done this?  My exhaust has lost that smooth Termi sound.  I have the cf cans.

you don't need a repack kit from Termi, you can use ANY repack stuff

I repacked my Sparks cans using stainless gauze I got off Ebay.  Came out to about $10 per can and about $3 for the rivets.

Stock, they use fibreglass, but that always burns over time.  Stainless gauze doesn't burn, ever, will take 10 years to rot.  It is NOT as quiet though.

old packing:

new packing ( 5 or 6 layers of stainless)

jc whitney has repack kits for motorcycles at about $20 bucks a pop. they are fiberglass.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm guessing that this is the procedure, let me know if I am incorrect:
1 - Drill out rivets that hold outlet cover onto exhaust can
2 - Remove old packing material
3 - Insert new packing material
4 - Rivet outlet cover back onto can

I am interested in keeping the volume down somewhat so I'll most likely go with the non-stainless packing.

one tip.  in order to get the repacked core back in, you will need to compress the packing.  there are several ways to do it, but all involve some hassle.

the best way (for me) is to get some shipping wrap paper, the thin brown stuff and roll a single layer around the packing -- get it TIGHT -- and then tape it with some paper masking tape.

slide the whole thing in and leave the paper/tape in.  if you are really crafty, you can put an extra piece of tape on and pull it off AFTER it's all inside the tube (hard to describe) so you take the tension off the packing.

the paper and tape will cook off over time.  hence the ash when you open a can with fibreglass!

Thanks for the tips.  I'm going to order some packing and give it a go.  Will probably do it in my garage though, seeing that it doesn't work the best in the living room!

Has anyone been able to successfully dismantle Termi cans and repack them?

I'm repacking the CF Termi cans on my ST.  I've drilled out the rivets and removed the forward (pipe side) cap.  The rear cap is extremely difficult to remove.  Does the cap separate from the inner perforated pipe?  Does anyone have any experience or advice?

Ddan

On the Sils, the perforated tube was attached to the lower cap. The CF sleeve should pull off the cap once the rivets are drilled, I wonder if they used some RTV or something to seal the cap.  Could you have a burr or piece of rivet stuck in the hole after you drilled them out?

I doubt RTV was used and for that reason I'm not going to use it either.

I do think I burred the stainless end cap but I can't even get it to budge.  What are the chances of burring all six holes?

I'm wondering if the bracket side mount interior nuts are preventing any movement?

The Architect

So I got the end cap off.  Thanks to the RTV, it wasn't an easy task.  Good call Dan.

I found the cans contain two chambers!  And I can't get the CF cover off!  Arrrggggg!

I appriciate the pics.  What you had is exactly what I was expecting to find but I didn't.  I think I've resolved it.  I just have to grind down some welds.  Once apart I'll post some pics.

I hope I'm not thread jacking but I new topic for the same issue might be a waste?

So I think I found the reason why I can't pull the inner perforated pipe out of the outer sleeve.  Typical cans have straps to hold them in place.  These cans have to threaded nuts in them which is what the bracket connect to.

Anyone have any idea how to pull the nuts out so I can get the inner core out?

Those are threadserts and they're permanent.
