tacho wiring diagram

would anyone know how the DP half moon rev counter is wired on the carbed m900 ?
i have one installed, but not connected to the coils. i have a four wire cable comming out of the unit. it includes a green, blue, purple wires..(of course, i am missing the connector block which would have made this install very easy !
i guess the supply is already connected inside the dash, and that those are just going to the coils, but how ?

That's exactly what I need to know!!! I have a 97 m750 and just bought the DP half moon tach from ebay. Mine has no connectors either. Just wires. I have 4 as well but mine are different colors. I have a red one coming from under the tach section, and 3 wires coming more from the back and to the side of the tach housing. Those wires are red (with a fuse holder), blue and green. They don't correspond in color to the coil wires but I guess  that's where they go? I guess the single red wire from under the housing is power for the LEDs? The other red one with fuse would go to a switched power source as well? but, where do the blue and green go?

Does anyone else have this Ducati tach? If you do it would be awesome if you could look and see what colors you have and where they go. Thanks!!! :)

I have the ducati tach installed with the quick connect, but ive spliced into it before to at one point install an aftermarket tach,  either way, yes I can tell you the wiring, but not untill this weekend when I get back to the states.  be patient and send me a PM next week if I forget.  Ill walk anyone who needs it right through the process of wiring that puppy up.  [thumbsup]

well, i hesistated a while before picking this section. the tech section seemed dedicated to people showing how to do stuff, rather than dummies like myself asking questions. but if you feel it's more appropriate in the tech sec, please do move it for me !

I traced the wiring schematics today and it seems like the 3 wire connector to the ignition module had power, ground and the rpm pulse indicator. I could check with a multimeter and find out what for each one but not which one they match up to on the tach. I mean I know that one is a power supply because of the fuse and I guess I could just try the other two wires and one way will be right BUT I just wasn't sure if wiring things up the wrong way would burn out the tach or short anything out. Am I in danger of anything if I wire it wrong? If not, then  I'll have a 50/50 shot at the remaining 2 wires and can figure it out and install this thing!

OK, I tried different connections last night on the little arch tach with a plug-in wall power supply rated at low mA's and only 9 volts. One red wire from under the arch tach dial lit the nightlight. The other red wire lit all the led's. The green wire was ground so the blue is the other wire.

Looking at the 3 wire connectorto the ignition module pic someone posted they showed black, grey and red. They showed the grey as the rpm sensor. I'm thinking that for my color scheme anyway that maybe red to red, green to black for ground and the blue to the grey sensor wire. I haven't tried it on the bike yet but that's where I may start.

I'm thinking that the  one red wire for the nightlight is strictly for that little bulb only. The other red one (mine has a fused connector inline w/ it) is the main power for the tach electronics. Green is ground, and blue must be the tach rpm sensor wire.

I'm thinking that the blue wire may act on a switching device within the tach only allowing certain leds to light up. Does this make any sense?

Does anyone have the little half circle tach that can PLEASE look at the wires on the inline connector and tell us what colors correspond to what colors? Seems like they would have the same color scheme but maybe that varied on the bikes as well? The colors out of my tach are even different than the one that Stef has!

Our last known possible helper out of many here with this tach and ...transmissions are getting scratchy...air supply is running low...may be out of range before we get the right info to wire ....condition critical...to wire our craft to return to Ear....

Ahhh, well looks like I made it just in time  [coffee] ...


So out of my tach there is a black red and green wire, The red wire is in line with a 200ma fuse.  These splice into the little black ignition box beside the coil.

so It goes red to red, green to grey, black to black.  I don't have a separate wire for the lights and tach power so I believe you can just use the same power supply for them.

I'll post once I do the install and hopefully everything will work ok. The bad thing is that I haven't heard the greatest stuff about these tachs, but I thought it would at least be worth a try...so fingers are crossed! :-\

glad to help,  same here on the reliability and reputation they have behind them,  but  my bike does have 22k miles on it and mines always worked just fine,  also basically any generic tach will read off those same wires, so another transplant isn't too difficult.  I ran a drag-specialties mini tach for awhile, an aftermarket Harley part...
