Boo job!!  Get a new one!  Wink

Or better yet, a local contractor down here ditched the truck for such things and replaced it with a Hypermotard.  You should follow his lead!  Wink

Dude, you should see what people can carry on their bikes/motorcycles when they get creative.  I see people carrying long boards (surfing style) on push bikes down here all the time.  I bet you could pull of a curb.  Wink

well, don't be the first one out of the gates at a stoplight, and accelerate about the same rate as the cars (even though that's painfully slow on the bike). Next step is short shift, and don't down shift to slow down from stop light to stop light, just pull in the clutch and apply brakes.

Use 87 versus 89 or 93, 2-valvers don't have enough compression to justify higher octane fuel despite what the manual says; its written in accordance to higher compression 4v bikes and high compression kits for the 2v's.

Oh, and the riding techniques to maximize fuel economy also minimize some of the fun. Loud downshifting is fun. Starting off and beating some traffic and whatnot is fun. But it uses unnecessary fuel if you need to be miserly.

Hey, $40 a week and half to fill the monster is a whole lot better than filling up my caddy with $100, and that doesnt even fill the tank up completely.

I have a very short commute in traffic, so I never get to give it much throttle. I logged my miles the last 2 tanks and got 46 and 48 mpg. The last tank was 139.3 miles on 2.877 gallons of fuel.

I'm getting about 50mpg from my '02 900 2v.  Most of my riding is through reasonably twisty roads but it seems to be fairly consistent irrespective of how hard I push.
Here in Oz we only dream of fuel at $4 a gallon.  Currently I'm paying in excess of $6 for 95 RON.  (yes that's US$ and yes it's US gallons not imperial gallons)
I dare say that you could pick up a pick up quite cheap over there at the moment. laughingdp Grin  (pun intended)

Hard riding on the 620 produces mpg in the 40's and going relatively easy it gets in the 50's. I might have to try a run one day of extremely easy riding to see what the max mileage I can squeeze out of it just for curiosity's sake.

I've been getting 37 or so with the Mazda on my daily commute and the GTI has the potential of getting great mileage as well if you go easy on it which is hard as the car begs to be whipped. We saw 38 mpg once over the course of a 100 mile or so round trip.

God yes you can.  A friend of mine is in the market to get a new vehicle in order to save a bit at the pumps (he currently drives a Jeep somethingorother) and every dealership he went to laughed at him when he mentioned his trade in.  NO ONE is taking any sort of truck/suv in on trades down here simply because they cannot sell them on again.
