one reason I bought my fit, I loved the G35 sport coupe I had, but it was a gas hog.....NOW with cheaper insurance, and a MUCH MUCH cheaper payment.....

I was able to save enough money to trade in my s4r and get a Rs and still save a ton of money, and the fit helps offset my fuel costs when I ride like a knucklehead.... Evil

that and I can fit 2 9' surfboards in the car with 3 people and the windows up and the ac on....and still get great mileage

Yay for the Geo Metro (I never thought I'd say that).

dude those cars are going for way above their bluebook value right now...  one dude made a business of buying every one he could find, fixing them up and they are selling nicely.

I just checked, it's about 4.59 a gallon for premium in Groton, CT where we're moving in a month or so. The wife's Passat Turbo needs premium fuel...  Undecided

That´s still cheap.. welcome to "the rest of the world prices for filling up our cars/bikes/boats etc."

We´re paying 1.25EUR per litre of 95 OCT Unleaded, 1.45EUR per litre of 98OCT Unleaded, 1.30EUR per litre for Diesel in Spain.

Stateside is still 50% cheaper than us.

Our new Yaris D4D (1.4 TD 90hp) consumes 4.5litres/100km and a full tank (45litres) of diesel gives us a max of 800km per tank in normal driving without a/c. We sold the Land Cruiser (3.0 TD 125hp) that had a 90litre tank (70 litres before reserve) as it started costing around 75EUR to fill up (without dipping into reserve) and only giving 600-650km.

True, our gas prices are still cheaper than most of Europe, but we have far fewer public transit options. Very few options when it comes to quality vehicles that get good mileage, and we have to drive everywhere for everything because "suburban sprawl" was designed to isolate residential areas from commercial and retail space.

I'm really hoping the rising gas prices in the U.S. prompts some European manufacturers to return, or return early to the U.S. market. I really want a Fiat Abarth 500 as my next car  waytogo

I am getting about 39 mpg with a Monster and about 26-27 with the Exige S....I'm hurtin' with the WRX wagon with the Thule box on top though 18-20 mpg (engine mods).  Mercifully I don't have to drive it that often waytogo

No matter what gas prices creep up to I will still smile every time I pull up to the pump in my Monster.

Just look around at everyone else and know that you are getting about 2-3X as many miles per gallon as all the cagers there.  waytogo

Ther are PLENTY of cars that get better than the 30-35 mpg my Monster gets.  It gets pitiful mpg compared to say my wife's 07 Tahoe.  We can put 6 people in it and a little gear, tow my MC trailer w/ more gear and get about 18-20mpg with it on the highway.
Still, no cage provides the entertainment value of my Monster or any other motorcycle for that matter.

looool
Will you stop whining please ?
For decades you had those ridiculous cheap gas prices and could run a 3,5 t SUV for the price of a hotdog
I am paying 1,50 EURO per liter here in Copenhagen.
Well...we are more or less used to it for years...so it feels quite normal.
I sold my Grand Cherokee too...whatever...time is changing.
SO lets burn that fuel before someone else does it   drink

$3.86 for 87 here.  I get between 35-40 commuting, more on a day ride unless I'm ripping on it the whole ride ~

I think the main fact hurting us in the states right now is that a lot of Americans got suckered (not sure if that is really the right word to use here) into the mentality that these large thirsty vehicles and now consider them as "must have" status symbols and or lifestyle accessories.  That and we had been incredibly spoiled with cheap fuel prices for a very long time and now find ourselves backed into a corner by our own glutenous consumerism.

I lived in Europe for almost eight years before moving back to the states and yes, they have coped with much higher fuel costs for a very long time.  But they are also secure in the understanding that smaller, more efficient vehicles make more sense than great big land yachts that we have grown up with here.  The cities there are also set up in more of a commuter friendly way as well: much better public transportation infrastructure as well as a more centralized layout.  Hope it isn't too late for us in the states to take more from that model and rethink or ways...
