Toothpaste, shampoo, nail clippers.......well I guess whatever was in the toiletries bag at the top of my pack.  Long story short, move your zippers to the lowest part of the pack or put a biner on them.

A handfull of earplugs, one cowl bolt, my high tech tank proping device, I'm sure there's been others as well.

I lost a bike... sort of.

I was caring a bag with about 4 very nice, reasonably expensive cigars in it.   I realized that I had dropped it.  I pulled into a low lit parking lot to go get them and when I did I got clothes lined by an unmarked chain hanging diagonally across the parking lot.  did 5 grand in damage to the bike.  I was fine for the most part.  I even managed to recover the cigars.  I ran over to grab them and a car ran over the bag they were in, but just caught the top of it and missed the cigars.  But I was unable to come to an agreement between the insurance and the repair shop.  Ended up having to sell the bike.

Wind opened my backpack and my jacket liner flew out.    :P    Cortech no longer makes the liner.   :(

I lost one of my termis riding home from work. I saw it on the side of the road the next day, well the carbon fiber carcass anyway. Someone had run it over. :(

I've also lost a bolt from my kickstand. Luckily I was already home when I found out. Gave me a pucker moment when I got off the bike.

I once lost my rear end....because I was in the process of losing my rear axle:

Turns out the guys at the shop where I'd had a new tire mounted didn't "quite" torque the axle nut  [bang]

Lost license plate on an afternoon ride.

Back tracked 25 miles and gave up.

Notified the Sheriff's office but never heard that the plate was found and that was back in May.

Rode another bike and a week later bought a new plate .

Another time I lost a bag from an unzipped hip bag in which I lost all my first aid kit plus medications I have to take during the day.

The bolt/pivot that holds the shifter lever.

On the highway in stop-and-go, shifted up into 2nd and it felt a little weird, shifted up again and it went into 3rd but I couldn't feel the lever.  Looked down and it was hanging on by the linkage rod.  Luckily I was in 3rd which is a pretty versatile gear and I was able to think of a route home that didn't pass any stoplights or stop signs.

Unluckily it took 3 weeks to get another bolt.

i had the same thing happen only i had just shifted to 5th gear on the hwy at 80+

I lost a pair of sunglasses while riding my 1st bike.  I wore an open face helmet back then, and when it was dark I switched to clear glasses.  For thousands of miles, hooking my sunglasses on the belt loop worked fine.  Just once, it didn't.  Bye-bye Oakleys.

I also lost the rear cowl on a GSX-R 600 once.  I stuck my hat under there, and it jammed the mechanism.  Then at highway speed it blew away, taking the hat and the cowl.  I didn't notice until I got where I was going  [bang]

Around 1985 I was storing an old beat up Sportster for a friend spending a few months in Florida.  He wanted me to ride it from time to time.

Coming home from work one day I heard a clanking noise, looked down and saw the kickstand hanging by the spring only, bouncing around off the pavement.  After a moment it came off the spring altogether, and kinda spun in place on the highway keeping pace with me at around 60 mph.  I went to grab it, and if I had been a split second quicker in thinking of it I would have got it.  D'Oh!  TOO SLOW!

I had to lean the bike against the wall till I bought and installed a new stand.

That old bike was a real clunker, but still, for some reason, was one of the most fun bikes to ride (at least on those days that parts weren't falling off).   ;D

Lost a license plate on highway.

Four of us on bike went back about a mile on both sides of the highway.  We rode on the grass side and the berm and believe it or not found it   [thumbsup]

Lost Oakley glass.  Cheapie from now on.

Couple of weeks ago, my side panel on the left side broke off.  (Just received a used panel from DMF'er   [thumbsup] )
