Custom bike builder Billy Lane was sentenced to six years in prison and three years probation for his part in a Sept. 4, 2006 accident that killed Gerald Morelock.

Lane, 39, will also have his driver's license suspended for life for the crash on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach, Fla. A toxicology test showed that Lane's blood-alcohol content was 0.192 percent, more than twice the state's legal limit of 0.08 percent when he crossed over a double-yellow line to pass several cars and crashed head-on into Morelock.

Morelock, a 56-year-old park ranger, was riding a small motorcycle at the time.

Florida Today broadcast the sentencing live via its website, capturing Lane's statements on his behalf, during which he said he was raised by parents who taught him to take full responsibility for his mistakes. “I drive by the spot where I killed Jerry Morelock every day,” Lane said. “I pray to God for his soul and for his family.”

Lane had been facing nine years in prison after he made a plea deal with prosecutors to drop a charge of DUI manslaughter in exchange for pleading guilty to vehicular homicide. In June, a judge OK'd the plea bargain.

Lane has 30 days to appeal his sentencing.
I know what ruined America, the fu@k*ng Americans !!!

no amount of jail time would ease the pain of the griefing family.  Billy Lane will carry that baggage and be reminded of that for the rest of his life.

RIP Gerald Morelock...

I have been following this for a while now.  All I can say is I'm content with him receiving the punishment he did.  As a celebrity there were quite a few people who thought he would walk.

I thought he would have to serve at least 1/3 of his sentance?  Are you saying 9months on top of what he's already served?

who says he has to serve 1/3 of his sentence?

I believe only in the federal system are you required to serve a percentage (I think it is a 85-90%)

example:

my brother is a defense attorney in Illinois/chicago.

One of his clients just got 5 years for selling smack.

He said she'll be out of jail in <1 year on good behavior.
