first is the easy one.

What fluid should be in the reservoir for a dry clutch?  Dot 3 Brake fluid?

second is a bit more complicated.

I went out to my car today (parked right next to my bike) and noticed about a 12" in diameter puddle next to my bike.  At first I thought some cat took a piss but then I noticed that the bolt holding the clutch lever in place had something on it.  So under further but very brief inspection, it appears that it is clutch (brake) fluid.  It looks as though it is leaking through the plunger actuator in the brembo master cylinder.

I am headed out to get some fluid tomorrow to top it off.  A, I want to buy the proper stuff (I dont see why it would be anything other then dot 3) and b, I would like to get to the bottom of why it is leaking.

Any Ideas?
Possible fixes?
I was trying to save for new front springs and black paint on my forks.  I dont want to have to spring for a new mc.

Thanks

Howie

You can use DOT3,4 and 5.1, the higher the DOT number, the higher the boiling point.  Do not use DOT5.  You could be looking at a leak at the master or you could be looking at brake lube, I can't tell without being there.  Statistically, a leaking slave cylinder is more likely.

ok so i topped it off with some fluid and it is still leaking.

The leak is 100% coming from where the plunger enters master cylinder.

Is this repairable or do I need to spring for a new mc?

If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you.  If you can't see Chuck Norris, you may be only seconds away from death.

Contact Yoyodyne - they will know for sure. Brembo masters were rebuildable at one time.  But they changed things up and took away that option - I'm just not sure when the swap occurred.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

anyone want to take a shot at explaining how this leak could have fixed itself?

Yep, I found a replacement part here on the forum and bought it.  By the time the paypal cleared the mc on the bike stopped leaking.  It has been a good 7-10 days now and the leak is gone!!!!  ??? [bang]

If it was leaking it will start again.  Possible that a seal inside "flipped" as it is likely an umbrella type seal and then it worked it's way back into proper position.
