ok so if the fork offset is changed from 30 to 28 what would the trail do? wheelbase? and how would it affect handling? what would be the clearance issues? my early calculations increased my trail about 5mm is that right? or did i find screwy calculators?

ok forget the fork question. i'm gonna stick with the 30mm offset as to not worry about all those issues.

BUT good news. the side bolts on the side that connect the main to subframe ARE the only one's to take the frame apart. the other wierd bolt is a spacer of sorts for correct alignment i guess. still have to take them off to repaint but not an issue for removing the frame. SO... drumroll please.... (will post pics later)

BIKE IS APART!
yep, all the way down to a motor on a stand.
the main frame has three things on it to take off: lower triple, gas tanks rubber mounts and side bolts (mentioned above)
The swing arm is heavier than i thought. and the whole frame lighter...
Next is taking the frame to the dealer to remove for the triple and side bolts without damaging them... they all require special tools
then off to a repair shop, get all the need replacement parts, decide if i'm gonna upgrade the engine... and PRAY i can put it back together. I'll post pics in the morning.

Would it be at all possible to make a "Trellis" rear frame while you're at it?

I'm sure that would be an exciting and good looking mod 8)

i think it would be possible to make a half trellis for sure, whole not so sure because of how the frames mount together at the engine mount points and at the cross.
basically there are three (and a half) critiical points.. the front engine mount with both frames the main the outer and the sub between the main and engine. the middle or cross there the two are mated, and the rear engine mount with only the sub. and a left side higher mount for the shock.

basically if you chop the sub behind those 3 and a half points and add tubes you could do it. but i'm not a welder  so it won't be me. the left would have a slighter larger casting but it should look cool that way.

Maybe MotoCreations could do this? I mean, some people have been complaining about the new bikes not having a full Trellis (don't know if you're one of them) and you might be the first to go that route....

It's probably silly expensive. Maybe a cool partial paint job, same color?

i'm certainly gonna work on smoothing out all the castings and will be doing a cool repaint with a not black frame with matching subframe ;)

ok the last few bolts and lower triple are off. took a trip to the local dealer and he helped with the last few things cause i don't have the proper tools... yet.

putting out my feelers for a good shop. but the dealer said that he can get a NEW frame for about 700 euro. then my VIN gets put on that frame... is that legal? i mean i have all the paperwork so i own that VIN number. and the frame is just a part right?

stopintime

Frame is not just a part - it "is" the bike, in legal terms.

There is close to no chance anyone will ever find out, but didn't your bike get salvaged? If so, your bike/VIN isn't legal until proven roadworthy - maybe? If it was me I would check this with some local clubs or bike builders.

I don't really know these things for sure, just speaking as a conserned fellow DMF'er.

Just in case anyone searches for this thread I wanted to put the rebuilt bike on here.

Looks great.  And a red frame is what Ducati and God intended.   ;)

Well done.
