Sad story, but I find the forensic side pretty interesting.

so she has no teeth, no fingers to ID, so during the autopsy, they remove her implants and pull the serial number to trace her identity.

makes me wonder if all the pins in my shoulder have serial numbers and can be traced back to my surgeon and me.

I don't know, if you don't want someone to be IDed, then definitely remove those features or any identifying markings.

Any FDA-approved surgical device that can possibly carry a unique number does. Some surgical meshes and other things that get modified in OR don't carry a number, but just about any plastic or metal gizmo will have a number that will be traceable back to a specific lot in the factory and to what hospital it was delivered to. Most have stickers on the package that make transposing the number to a patient chart very easy.

dont forget about the chip implant.
every federal employee gets one when the do their first physical upon entry into service.
makes it easier for the man to know how much time you spend at the water cooler.

problem is, they dont take them out when you retire/resign, etc...
