Ok, seriously?

At what point does this sound like remotely a good idea?

I feel bad for the little 7 year old, her parents should be charged with being dumbasses.

It is like the morons that visit the Cliffs of Mohr in Ireland.

lol, I know Acadia park that place is fantastic.  It's one of my favorite spots in the NE for camping and hiking.  They are dumb asses and should've been more careful.  I never went close to any edge over there unless it had a railing.

Negligent homocide? That's what I thought when I read it.

IMHO I think that most people just don't realize what power an ocean wave has....  I grew up and have lived my whole life at/on the beach.

Ever see a rogue wave come out of no where and capsize a boat?...  I have.  Ever see a water spout from 200 yards away?...  I have.  Working as a lobsterman when I was a teenager gave me the greatest respect for the ocean.  Hell....  in the blizzard of '78 (I was 13) the ocean swept away the first 3 houses on my street.  Nothing was left but foundations.

So...  these people just didn't know the danger that lurked and a poor girl lost her life.  Imagine what her parents are going through right now.  Just horrible.

no doubt the parents will sue the Nat. Park Service for failing to protect their kid.
and emotional damages of course...

BTW, here are a couple of pictures a friend took of the waves off the beach in Maine where I grew up.

this is not news, happens every time a hurricane comes that close. as a kid, we would wait a few days until the worst of the rip current had gone, and then go out and get pummeled body surfing.

That's a gross generalization that actually pisses me off.

This made me think of the Battle of Bull Run. People packed picnic baskets to watch the war and were quickly in the middle of the shit.

That was pretty close to the Battle of Manassas, right?

water is probably close to 40 deg...

wear a wetsuit. ;)

actually, i was up there for the first week of august, and the water was really warm, even for that time of year. i blame it on all the rain.
between warming up all summer, and warm water pushed in from the gulf stream....it should be even better.
at least 60 or so...
